Just Incredible. Looks like it’s still rain in Winthrop. You gotta love this state for having this kind of weather mix possible. So interesting.

Indeed.  There was a crazy push of warm air into Central and Eastern WA earlier.  This makes two times Western WA has had snow while the east side was much warmer in just the past couple of weeks.

Snow absolutely dumping on the passes. Stevens Pass is up 17" since 4pm. Snoqualmie Pass...well they shut down I-90 earlier lol.

Looks like the drop in temp was enough for ECMWF to verify on Tim getting snow! And the models are looking much more favorable in the long range.

Things are coming up Millhouse!

You didn't see the GFS tonight?  Pretty epic potential there.

Was there anything good in the believable range? Didn't notice anything other than clown range hopes which we need to keep in check bigly.

I can never recall getting two snow events so close together caused by slow moving baroclinic bands and heavy precip.  Just something odd about this winter.

Even crazier is that this part of the region has not noticed a thing...

Looks like a west coast warm finger pattern trying to develop at the end. Y'all it's January, a month in which it appears it will never deliver here again. The climate simply cannot produce it anymore and it's a hopeless endeavor to think it could.

GEFS just started, and how am I wake.... or WHY am I awake....

I'm headed to bed. It's just so depressing ever looking at the models in January anymore. Worst weather month of the year along with the now annual smoke month.

Why are you so down? This is the best the models have looked in over a month. Seriously. Especially the ensembles. Even the Op run begins retrogression just after Day 9.

Yeah long range was mighty close to being really cold.

Still retrograding too. Which makes dynamical sense.

GFS wants to take us places and been consistent with it for 3rd run in a row. It’s moving nicely with the timing, so it’s not like things are getting pushed back. Overall, it’s a trend you wanna see.

Now, I want the other models, especially the Euro OP and ensembles show something in support. PLENTY of time for this to happen or not.

I'm cautiously optimistic. We'll see what happens, but life goes on even if it doesn't work out.

Pfft. Max gust of 48 mph at KBLI. Anything under 50 is not really a windstorm.

North end definitely had some good winds....just our local area down here underwhelming. Rainfall on the other hand performed!
1.68 precipitation yesterday

Currently 38*

Impressive. Tim will probably wake up to a few inches of snow.

So there was a little wet snow here but it did not accumulate.    I think the ridge blocks the north wind here and in a very marginal backside situation with limited cold air... its just enough to make a difference.    I just drove down towards NB and the was a more snow on the ground the farther I got away from the ridge.   Not much... but the ground is covered about 1/2 mile away.

Either way... its pouring rain everywhere again now.

I understand that we want the jet to retract and the EPS is definitely going in that direction... but it is still hard to call the end of the 00Z EPS something great.    I think normally this would be considered a pretty ugly pattern on here.

It might be coming... and the GFS is now showing something interesting on every run.

And maybe the EPS will suddenly come into focus.   But the end of the 00Z run was not even close to being cold at 15 days out.   I usually don't trust any significant cold pattern until I see the EPS start consistently showing it.

I would love to see this all happen in January for many reasons.
