Some pics on the way up to my property.  The ones on the road are 1/4 mile down the road and the gate is the beginning of my 120 acre land.

No idea this was going to happen today! Mcminnville

My boy the NAM coming in with another W after also getting the 'surprise' windstorm on 1/13 right (along with the Euro)!

It gets a lot of flack but actually does alright for some situations.

I gained some respect for it after the last wind event we had here. Thought it did very well, not as on point as the Euro, but it did forecast it nicely.

The model that seems to be absolute crap and the local mets here still continues to use is the WRF... when will they throw it out?

Exact placement of TPV less important than the fact there’s legitimate arctic air entering the CONUS on the majority of the guidance for early February. 12z GFS still gets -41C 850mb temperatures into ND/MN, which would be among the coldest air masses ever recorded over the lower-48 for that timeframe.

Do you think the arctic air will make it into the PNW?

Some GFS runs showed it but now its trending east of the rockies.

Absolutely dumping snow. Down to 35 degrees. Obviously not sticking at the moment, but that'll probably change soon if this keeps up. There's something so peaceful and satisfying when going for a drive in the snow and seeing a large amount of the flakes flowing over the windshield. ❄️ 😍

Yeah dumping snow and sticking. Is the precip rate due to increase?

Sounds like it’s going better than expected down in Oregon. Down on the waterfront in Tacoma can see the snow coming down on the Olympics.

The 3km NAM can be a pretty solid short range tool. Did well with the big 1/10/2017 snowstorm in PDX too.

Happy for y'all down in Oregon. Since it looks like we'll have most of our precipitation carved out by east winds up in our burg, I'm living vicariously through you Oregonians. Plus we already had a very dynamic and exciting event on the solstice.

Rooting for a massive overperformance down there!

Honestly,I’ll be satiated with a few flakes or momentary mix here in Gladstone.  I like living here (no sad face necessary), but when it hears the phrase “marginal event,” this area has a notorious habit of immediately getting in the fetal position to take its cold rain beating.  Not a snow lover’s dreamscape, even by a realistic PNW lowlander’s standards.

Used to live near there when I was in my 20s.  I understand your pain :(

The dry advection was definitely a little more robust with this.  Pretty breezy here which is always a good indication of pretty dry conditions well into the mid levels.  Nice thing is flake survival is strong to the surface!
