They average something like 90-100" of snow a year. This is a third of their annual snowfall in one day-long storm.

The stats I saw said they average 59" but I'm sure elevation makes a huge difference there.

Everett Snowfall (510 feet elevation)

Snow since February 2019: 91"

2023-24: 6"

2022-23: 17.5"

2021-22: 17.75"

2020-21: 14.5”

2019-20: 10.5"

2018-19: 24.75"

Nam is looking better for pdx snow tuesday

12z WRF 4km sounding over Portland was extremely close to a snow sounding with east winds, dewpoints falling quickly, and dry layer aloft leading to decent wet bulb cooling. East of the airport especially east of I-205 looked like a lock for snow to me.

That's similar to what happened in 2017, half of my annual snow fell in a day.

I remember someone commented on my facebook during that like "don't you live over 4000 ft." but huuuuge difference between events like this and having like 5 inches.

It has its charms and upscale areas... golfing, boating, and wineries all close by with reliably sunny weather (pic below where we usually stay).  Worth a weekend getaway when its 55 and raining here and 85 and sunny there.   We always have a blast.  That is why we do it.

We also go to Chelan... and Coeur D'Alene... and Sun Lakes which might be our new favorite weekend escape.

Looked really nice and snowy up in the hilly parts of North Plains today. Above 700-800 ft. You missing that climate?

Definitely miss the snow, but the rest of the year is better here.  I’m 5 minutes away from 1500’ now though so it’s there if I need it!

is this pic up by the radar?

The ultra slow mo 18z GFS parallel is to hour 222 and things look pretty good at that point.  Trough s digging nicely over WA and a high pressure cell is approaching to reinforce the offshore block.  Very importantly a low is cutting off to the NW of Hawaii to help keep the block pumped up.

Yeah 1200-1600ft is a couple minutes drive for me as well. Went up there today since I got tired of the rain/snow mix down here. Helps me get my fix. Thought about moving up to a higher elevation but not sure of the inconvenience. Longer commute and grocery runs.

Why would anyone waste time in the dirty, scummy part of WA state?   I don't know... maybe the hundreds of thousands of people trying to get over the pass every Friday evening all summer long!   😃

We are definitely planning to spend more time at Sun Lakes this summer... can't wait!

It is a different world up there, I loved right on the corner of skyline and rocky point.  About 1.5 miles from the radar.  I would love to live up there again when I’m older.

My wife has one uncle who lives just outside Mt. Shasta City, and another who lives in Weed. Shasta City gets a lot more snow than Weed, a lot more precip overall it seems.

I think they get more rainfall than I do in Shasta City. I've seen NorCal get pounded in some events.

Ah, nice. Have not been down that way. That picture is down Pumpkin Ridge rd. It gets up to 1800 ft or higher at one point. Great views.

Crap!  The 0z GFS is starting so it looks like the 18z parallel will only make it to hour 252.  It was looking great at that point.
