Not here sadly. And it's not gonna happen again for a long-a$$ time other than the mountains. We are a horrific place for snow.

we will see...in the last decade how many times has it snowed in February? I don’t live in a great place for snow either...but February has produced quite a bit recently. 2011, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 up this way.

How has January done down this way outside of 2017 since like...IDK 2008? Midwinter stuff is just gone. It doesn't seem climatologically possible anymore.

Yakima ensembles shows some indication of backdoor chilly air with more members -5c to -12c. A long ways to go but I'm not real confident. 12z EURO was a train wreck. Hoping the EPS shapes up better.

When you start searching for the backdoor it means winter has left through the front.  Bye bye January

Cold air always moves into northeast Washington, Columbia Basin first. Well, nearly always unless it's a rare northern blast, Nov 2010, etc.

My gf left me for the lack of snow in the PNW the past couple years. She left more for a colder climate. The city was Indianapolis.

You mean lack of snow west of the cascades? almost the entire Pacific Northwest east of the cascades of Washington and Oregon is a winter paradise.

I bet that it’ll snow in Eugene in late December-late January sometime in the next couple years. Maybe next year!

January has been pretty weak in recent years. Had snow in 2007, 2008, 2011 2012 and 2020. Only big event being 2012. February is the new January.

Not much blocking to our NW. Perhaps  some active NW flow with foothill snow.

Devil would in the minor details and ultimate amplification... but this pattern during early February last year was insanely wet in the foothills.    Like 15 inches in 14 days at the Cedar Lake station near my house.

Yes... that pattern results in relentless rain in the north and central Cascades and adjacent foothills while SEA and OLM are shadowed and most of Oregon is dry.

Euro weeklies just came out. Keeps a ridge between 150-170W the last 30 days of the run. Mostly center around 160W. Problem is it’s not very amplified so we stay in cool NNW flow most of the run. If there is any amplification the pattern would be amazing. If not it’s a lot of cold rain.image.thumb.png.4baaa980e544a772d938f7ea02552330.png

Thanks for the maps. IF that verifies as shown that won't get the job done, but it will replenish and build a big Cascade snow pack. Ah well better than I guess snowless mountains. I know the Euro Weeklies aren't gospel though, so we shall see.

The better question is when the EURO control run didn't show an arctic blast? It's like the EURO equivalent of the old school 18z GFS.

Haha yeah. As I said a week ago in my PDX WX FB group, the Control Run is like the Drunk European compadre of our Drunk Uncle. The Drunk Pierre model.

I’ve been waiting for some lower snow levels to head up to the foothills up in the San Juan’s. Even if we don’t get any snow down here I’d be happy with that!

Exactly. It's an encouraging sign to see amplification become a consistent feature, and of course accurate placement won't even be close to achieved that far out.

Shut down the Pacific. That is the first step. From what I can tell, the first influences on the Pacific begin this Sunday as heights begin rising over western North America.
