Phil
Some of the most amazing early August weather in memory since last weekend. Highs in the low 80s, dewpoints in the low 60s, and plenty of clouds. That’s as good as it gets at this time of year. Should last until Thursday, I think. Then the swamp makes its inevitable return. Phil
Torrential rain again last night and this AM. Over 2” in the gauge as of 12 noon. Phil
Had a major storm yesterday. Most prolific lightning of the summer thus far, also some microburst winds of 40-50mph. Today looks as if it could be similar, if not more impressive than yesterday. Decent shortwave crossing to the lee of the ridges during peak heating, in the middle of a heatwave/high CAPE environment, with antecedent moist BL conditions following recent convective rains. As ripe a setup as we’ll see at this time of year, minus a tropical system. That supercell was crazy here. A constant barrage of lightning for over an hour, and 2.4” of rain in only 20 minutes. The fact it hit struck at 3AM made it even crazier. This afternoon looks quite dynamic as well. Suspect there will be some serious rainfall along that frontogenic zone and severe supercells/multicell clusters in the warm sector, followed by a push of solid CAA starting just after sundown. 1 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=
Phil
The last few days have been amazing. For the first time in ages, dewpoints finally dropped below 70°F on Thursday, with highs in the mid/upper 70s, lows in the 60s, and a deep blue sky absent haze for the first time in weeks, ever since. Getting some light rain today with temperatures in the middle 70s. I think the last week of October or the first week of November will deliver some storminess. Climo seems to favor that period, especially in the 21st century. Phil
Highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s are the theme for the foreseeable future. Absolutely magnificent weather. This is easily the most beautiful time of year around here. Cool, crisp (and often foggy) mornings, orangey afternoon sun with lengthening shadows, declining humidity, and the smell of falling leaves permeating the air. Also lasts much longer than the “goldilocks period” in spring, which is inconsistent if not nonexistent in some years. Black Hole
I'll be in the Corpus Christi area next week. Forecast might get interesting around the 14th or so as that massive western trough spins up a deep storm in the plains. The trailing edge of that front might suck up moisture from a Pacific hurricane and lead to some heavy rain days. 2 Quote Winter 23-24: Total Snow (3.2") Total Ice (0.2") Coldest Low: 1F Coldest High: 5F Snow Events: 0.1" Jan 5th, 0.2" Jan 9th, 1.6" Jan 14, 0.2" (ice) Jan 22, 1.3" Feb
weatherfan2012
I'm starting to think a El Nino maybe favored in 2023-2024 normally these multiple La ninas tend to last three years or so.if 2023-2024 ends up as a Nino with a possable East qbo coming off a La nina period that winter would have great potential.
Phil
First real cold front of the fall/winter season blows through this afternoon. Will be nice to leave these 80°F days behind, hopefully for the remainder of the year. Could be a thin/gusty squall line associated with the front today, and maybe some 40mph gusts associated with the CAA/pressure rises in its immediate wake. Phil
Finally feels like autumn. Highs in the 60s, low in the 40s, with low humidity and cool northwesterly breezes at 25-35mph for the last two days. The air is crisp and clean. Phil
Interesting weather day on tap. Potent WAA with highs likely approaching 80°F, followed by a sharp cold front/severe weather threat, temp drop, and rapid cyclogenesis off the delmarva. Gradient will likely be tight enough for 35-45mph gusts by tomorrow evening. No pressure surge or significant CAA at the time, but downsloping & generally deepening BL should be enough for some decent mixing.
