Back to back days with perfectly placed downpours in a sea of dry. Picked up some much needed rainfall and cooled us off a bit.

Low 80s w/ mid 70s dews as the sun sets behind a curtain of haze this evening.

Thunderstorms are amazing to watch howard and Baltimore country got hammard but when it went into Anne Arundel it really fell apart just some left over rain thunder and lighting no wind but it was power pack in howard.pa had a big tornado there today as did New Jersey. So the event did varfie just depended where you were which is typical of convective systems. What was not typical was the April may type of setup severe weather event in late July.

Some of the most amazing early August weather in memory since last weekend. Highs in the low 80s, dewpoints in the low 60s, and plenty of clouds. That’s as good as it gets at this time of year.

Should last until Thursday, I think. Then the swamp makes its inevitable return.

Crazy lightning storm this afternoon. Rapid fire CGs all around, following a 45+mph outflow surge. Got some much needed rain as well.

Could see more tomorrow.

This heat is getting nasty. Heat advisory tomorrow for heat indices at/above 105°F.

Gets uglier Thursday, with excessive heat watch issued for heat indices at/above 110°F. Probably similar weather Friday.

Praying for convection to save us.

Torrential rain. Roughly 2.25” in 1hr at DCA. Some reports in excess of 3” already popping up.

Decent lightning as well, been strobing for almost 3hrs now. A couple of close strikes mixed in.

Torrential rain again last night and this AM. Over 2” in the gauge as of 12 noon.

Many roads closed due to flooding, thanks to the already-saturated ground from tropical storm Fred.

73/71 currently. Coolest it’s been in awhile but the humidity ain’t going anywhere.

Had a major storm yesterday. Most prolific lightning of the summer thus far, also some microburst winds of 40-50mph.

Today looks as if it could be similar, if not more impressive than yesterday. Decent shortwave crossing to the lee of the ridges during peak heating, in the middle of a heatwave/high CAPE environment, with antecedent moist BL conditions following recent convective rains. As ripe a setup as we’ll see at this time of year, minus a tropical system.

Speaking of the heat, it’s been nasty of late.

Today will be the 43rd day at/above 90° @ DCA. Very humid this AM following yesterday’s rains, currently 85/78 as of 1145AM. Heading into the low/mid 90s this afternoon once again.

Keep an eye on those storms to the southwest Phil just in case anything pops up Tornado watch in effect for our viewing locations.not a good set up to have in the over night when most are a sleep.Ceternly not our  typical case.

That supercell was crazy here. A constant barrage of lightning for over an hour, and 2.4” of rain in only 20 minutes. The fact it hit struck at 3AM made it even crazier.

This afternoon looks quite dynamic as well. Suspect there will be some serious rainfall along that frontogenic zone and severe supercells/multicell clusters in the warm sector, followed by a push of solid CAA starting just after sundown.

The last few days have been amazing. For the first time in ages, dewpoints finally dropped below 70°F on Thursday, with highs in the mid/upper 70s, lows in the 60s, and a deep blue sky absent haze for the first time in weeks, ever since.

Getting some light rain today with temperatures in the middle 70s. Looks like we warm back up into the 80s next week, but it doesn’t look nearly as nasty as before.

Yet another flash flood watch. Seems like we get one per week these days.

Warm conveyor developing this afternoon. Stiff SE breeze, low clouds, and low 70s dewpoints. Later tonight into tomorrow midday looks pretty active. Wouldn’t shock me to see an imbedded severe storm/gust somewhere.

Larry Cosgrove thinks a major east coast event happens between now and mid October.says even if it not sam he thinks something else forums and becomes a big threat impact storm interisting.

I think the last week of October or the first week of November will deliver some storminess. Climo seems to favor that period, especially in the 21st century.

Highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s are the theme for the foreseeable future. Absolutely magnificent weather.

This is easily the most beautiful time of year around here. Cool, crisp (and often foggy) mornings, orangey afternoon sun with lengthening shadows, declining humidity, and the smell of falling leaves permeating the air.

Also lasts much longer than the “goldilocks period” in spring, which is inconsistent if not nonexistent in some years.

I'll be in the Corpus Christi area next week. Forecast might get interesting around the 14th or so as that massive western trough spins up a deep storm in the plains. The trailing edge of that front might suck up moisture from a Pacific hurricane and lead to some heavy rain days. gfs-deterministic-centraltexas-total_precip_inch-4385600.pnggfs-deterministic-conus-pwat-4245200.pnggfs-deterministic-conus-z500_anom-4256000.png

First real cold front of the fall/winter season blows through this afternoon. Will be nice to leave these 80°F days behind, hopefully for the remainder of the year.

Could be a thin/gusty squall line associated with the front today, and maybe some 40mph gusts associated with the CAA/pressure rises in its immediate wake.

Finally feels like autumn. Highs in the 60s, low in the 40s, with low humidity and cool northwesterly breezes at 25-35mph for the last two days. The air is crisp and clean.

The sounds of the wind blowing leaves around is so satisfying. Summer ended on Saturday, October 18th. Good riddance.

Beautiful autumn day. Shrouded in dense AM fog, followed by a clear/crisp afternoon in the 70s.

Dropped to 39.9°F Tuesday AM, coolest low of the season so far. Nice to finally leave the sticky, stagnant weather behind.

Interesting weather day on tap. Potent WAA with highs likely approaching 80°F, followed by a sharp cold front/severe weather threat, temp drop, and rapid cyclogenesis off the delmarva.

Gradient will likely be tight enough for 35-45mph gusts by tomorrow evening. No pressure surge or significant CAA at the time, but downsloping & generally deepening BL should be enough for some decent mixing.

Transition season is always fun. I see we're as anemic as California here, if not worse.

Agree! 🍻

Just had a big thunderstorm here. Probably not severe but strong nonetheless. Winds upwards of 50mph with plenty of lightning (including a super close CG strike).

Line is kind of pinwheeling so we could get smacked again in a few hours when the front blows through.

Storm total 2.16”. Got most of our October average in 5hrs.

Wind advisory for 50mph gusts this afternoon. First wind event of the cold season + saturated soils should drop some weak trees and dead wood.

Wind starting to roar. Seeing some 40+mph gusts at the noon hour. Pretty epic leaf blizzard ongoing. 😂
