Hawkeye
I'm curious to know how much I've received, but I hate going out to measure when it's dark, windy, and cold, and my snow boards may have experienced too much blowing to do any good. I much prefer light wind events. Regarding flake size, the only good size I've seen came from the very first two bands this afternoon. It's pretty small now. 1 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"

Seems there has been more accumulation that what I originally thought. I’m on the far north side of town and the wind has been humming all night. Some deeper spots for sure. Hawkeye
I have a backyard that is mostly enclosed by a fence, which should provide some decent protection from blowing/drifting, but I've still always had trouble getting a good measurement when there is strong wind. I remember back on the day after the big Groundhog Day blizzard in 2011, my measurement areas in my yard only had a few inches, which was obvious nonsense for a total. I ended up going into my neighbor's yard with a yard stick, taking a measurement every few feet over the entire yard, including 3 ft drifts and bare ground, and averaging them. i came up with 10" doing that, which is close to what others in the area received. 5 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"
hlcater
Snow has stopped completely in IC. The spotty nature of the snow to our southwest makes me think accumulation the rest of the night will be slow. Really only expecting 3" of additional accumulation through the remainder of the event, even though the HRRR is suggesting as much as 5" more. 1 Quote 2021-22 Snowfall: (Hiawatha) TOTAL: 10.2" (12/28: 3.0") (12/29: 0.8") (1/1: 6.4")

Yep, the hw20 is experiencing totally solid snow, but farther south the snow breaks up. At least IC got a decent head start on CR. Hawkeye
It appears Omaha will remain in the good snow area for a while longer, according to radar. The wind being out of the north should help, too. Radar here is deceiving. Overall it's still good, but the problem is every tiny sliver of lesser green that passes over us translates to a collapse of the snow rate and dramatic rise in visibility. 1 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"

Grizzcoat
This is easily going to go down as largest snowfall for Polk,Dallas Cty area of C.IA since the Draggin' Wagon (my mini van in that storm literally was covered with drifts) of Dec 09'. 16". This will have similar totals but without 60 mph winds and 20 mB pressure gradient across IA. Best storm I've ever gone through- in Iowa. Hawkeye
I just went out to see if I could get a decent measurement. My three snow boards had roughly 2.8, 2.5, 1.8". That's it. The problem is the snow was blowing across the yard as I was measuring. The shoveled path to get to the snow boards is totally filled in, too, which probably now contains some of the snow that should be on the boards. 2 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"

ToastedRavs
Live downtown Des Moines. Just under 10 inches at midnight. Hard to find good place to measure though. Drifts 2 to 3 feet, which my little sports car didn't take kindly to as I drove to work. Luckily Iowa nice and had 3 folks shovel me out, myself included. Roads are not bad once you get to main ones.
