00z MM5-NAM increased the wind forecast significantly for the Central Sound compared to previous runs.

60-65 mph for Bainbridge would cause some serious damage.

Winds are averaging about 14, strongest gust has been 27 here. *yawn*  Jim should be happy though. ;)

That could change in an instant. I hope for Jim's sake he doesn't get any big gusts (he's obviously really dreading another cleanup), but you guys still have several hours to get through.

Then the 67 should be on their observations then.

Check the full METARS if you guys want to see the actual peak wind gusts between hourly obs.

For example, at PDX, you can see the full ob shows the peak wind as 58 kts.

That shows 40 knots for Bothell which is 45 mph. Don't take that kind of map too literally though. Just gives a decent idea.

that is gusts or sustained speed?

Gusts.

1 knot equals 1.15 mph so add 1.5 mph for every 10 knots of windspeed.

For example, 40 knots = 40 + (1.5X4) mph = 46 mph.

My parents on the other side of Bonney Lake are texting me of strong gusts and flickering power.

My power flickered here about an hour and a half ago but pretty quiet since. My strongest gust so far has been 36mph. I do hope for more as I love wind storms!

day off from life today went too Wash Away Beach on the Washington State Coast. I feel for the Home owners there losing their Property too the storms. staying the night in West Port to watch the Waves tomorrow.

Brought the wind maps along, I hope.

So, where ya staying?  I grew up there.

Wait, actually I have no idea where West Port is, I grew up in Westport.

So far so good here.  Just a few more hours to get through.  This little pocket in here has been protected so far.

Sadly my anemometer stopped working a couple of weeks ago and I don't have it fixed yet.

I saw part of this cloud looking toward Downtown from my school near Green Lake and thought it looked pretty crazy. This is definitely one of the coolest cloud pictures I've ever seen.

SEA is on an impressive roll.  Back to back days with gusts over 45.  They don't do that too often from two separate storms.

Wild night here, when the wind first started here a couple of hrs ago our power immediately went out. Happened right as we were leaving for my company Christmas party. Made it through the party in Stanwood, and as we are driving through town everything goes dark! That was cool to see! Then we arrived home about 15min ago, and we have power but had one casualty...my BBQ :( That thing has been in the same spot for 6yrs and I have never had this happen!! And man right now it is rocking and rolling outside! My dogs are not happy campers at all.

Strongest gust for PDX since March 1971?!?

Incredibly overachieving storm.

I see it has already been mentioned, but PDX had an instant gust to 74 mph in December 1995. Its too bad the NWS was using 5 second averages as the "gust" in that era, which is why 62 mph got locked in as the peak "gust". That was definitely the more significant and damaging windstorm.

PDX also gusted to 69 mph in November 1981. I think the NWS overlooked that one.
