Hawkeye
I finished with 5.8". I really wanted to be able to mark down another 6-incher. There was a lot of drifting toward the end and all the blowing snow collected on the driveways and sidewalks. My snowblower doesn't work well (no blowing power), so I had to shovel two driveways and sidewalks. It was probably the biggest shoveling job I've ever done. In addition to the drifting, the bottom layer was wet and even slushy in spots. It kept sticking to the shovel. The job took three hours. There is a ton of snow here now... huge piles... the most since February 2008. 8 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"

Whiteout conditions w winds sustained near 28mph, gusts 38mph. I think Macomb , down to Detroit will be the "Jackpot" areas, as more hvy bands are developing. Just incredible snowfall rates. jaster220
Got home to what looks and measures to be about 2.5" tho it's wet and likely compacted a bit as well. Radar shows more snow swinging through but I got nothing falling so Idk what's up with that? There was a brief burst right after I stepped out from work and with the wind it looked bliz-ish til I got a couple miles down the road, lol. May have been the most intense snow I've seen via a south wind. Waiting to see if this has anything left for me via the lake or again screwed by unfavorable wind vector. Seeing some nice 5+ reports in the usual places 2 counties north. Might be worse in certain places per my office's update: .UPDATE... Issued at 859 PM EST Thu Feb 4 2021 Impressive burst of snow now pivoting north of the Grand Rapids to Muskegon area. There were some lightning strikes within this area of snow earlier this evening. Multiple locations reported snow rates of an inch per hour and Muskegon had an observation with 2 inches in an hour. The cold front in northwest IN was advancing quickly east northeast. The winds will pick up to 35 to 45 mph and the temperature will fall sharply behind this front. Scattered power outages are likely to occur. Based on the latest run of the HRRR...we may need to extend the winter weather headlines into Friday night as the accumulating snow may persist for portions of the area. We will not extend the headline with the evening update. 1 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918

I believe we had 4" 2 Sundays ago and 2" last Sat night. The 6" on the 29th was 20:1 fluff that you good blow on and make it disappear. I'm sure that is one of the biggest reasons your up there! Plus, the nature and outdoors are top notch I'm sure of it. I saw numerous vehicles in ditches along a local highway. Some were digging them out while more ended up in the ditch before I made the return trip! Yikes, one car was upside down! The ditches are mostly full of snow so it was drifting onto the roads and some rural gravel roads were impassable till the snow plow cleared it yesterday afternoon. People were getting stuck. jaster220
Another 1/2" overnight has brought my storm total to 4.3" (biggest yet!) and I see it lines up nicely with the map from the NWS for here. Wasn't completely whiffed on the backside LES, but the wind did remain enough S of W to keep the better stuff 1/2 a county north as was my expectation after interrogating the SR models Thursday pm. All in all, not the Watch/Warn storm I'm still hunting for, but way better than the rainer we thought was heading this way. And the LES belt counties did well. It also was my kind of storm in that we had the dense WAA snows first followed by the LES frosting on the layer cake. Solid white out there attm. Can't complain, especially with another 2+ in the forecast.
