October doesn’t count. We got cold out in Oklahoma at the end of December 2009, but I thought the big cold in the west was earlier.

In 2009 we got cold in early to mid December. We had a nice little arctic front with some good wind.

High-res WRF still showing a little CZ snow for the North sound tomorrow night/Monday morning. Hints at some action around North Seattle too.

The mean snowfall on the EPS is over 4 inches for SEA now.  The control is about the same.  Interestingly the latter part of the run shows a solid -PNA pattern after a brief period of near zero PNA values.  Might be quite the February / March combo this go round.

That's what I thought. That was a fantastic winter out in Oklahoma. At the time it was the 2nd snowiest winter on record at Tulsa. Major snow events in December, January, and March. Also a 16/-3 day at Bartlesville in early January where I was living.

Quite a few places got nailed with heavy snow during that winter. Too splitty for Spokane to do well. We had two of the three snowiest winters on record in 2007-08 and 2008-09. 2009-10 ended up being one of the least snowiest winters on record.

I just can't imagine being in 50mph winds when it's below 20 in a tent.  Might be enough to get them to leave.  The city has given them orders to leave, but in typical leftist fashion they are just ignoring the order.

We probably shouldn't go to far down the road on this topic, but yeah, tough stuff. I saw a lot of homeless folks when I was in Denver last January. So they adapt.

Pretty strong CZ signal on the 3km NAM. Paints a thin stripe of 2-4" of snow in North Snohomish and South Skagit County. Precip map gives the center of that zone over 0.5" of liquid equivalent so it's definitely a healthy one.

That convergence zone has been shown on almost every model for the last couple of days to a varying extent. It looks to me that temperatures will be pretty marginal (especially out near the water) and what falls would need a little help to survive the next warmish days, but I would be surprised if Randy doesn't end up getting a couple inches.

Interestingly one of the top analogs to the pattern coming up is early Feb 1971.  The strange things is the really big deal that winter came a few weeks later.  Shows this might be a long lasting overall cold pattern.
