February 2021 PacNW Weather Discussion

12z ICON continues to be North. So much so in fact it brings some rain up almost to Seattle Friday afternoon. Scours everywhere out early and cold air never really pushes South but very snowy around the Sound.

They always go North . . .

This thing could still easily end up so far North that Bellingham is the big winner. 60 hours is a long time.

Two days ago Matt is going to be right! Canadians win!

I'm hoping it's just the GFS coming around to what literally every other model is seeing and they all just remain the course....

Light snow with the first one. Big time over running event to follow

Have you seen the RGEM this morning. Develops a surface low off the top of Vancouver island, showing 10-15 cm over the south island on Thursday evening. Looks like the snow doesn’t stop before the new system comes in

This has a Vancouver island landfall all over it. Just looks fake watching the low suddenly steer SE.

Just yesteday you were saying a Salem landfall lol. I think a southern Washington landfall is the most realistsc

GFS might still be showing snow for the Seattle area on Saturday but the 850mb temps look ugly by that morning.

An anomaly map is not the same as the actual readings which maintain themselves below freezing at 850mb.

Incredible 6z ECMWF.  6.7 inches of snow for SEA and the second low hasn't arrived yet.  Better yet it' slightly more suppressed at the end of the run vs the 0z!

Death To Warm Anomalies!

Total Snowfall = 1.0"

Day with 1" or more snow depth = 1

Total Hail = 0.0

Coldest Low = 13

Lows 32 or below = 45

Highs 32 or below = 3

Lows 20 or below = 3

Highs 40 or below = 9

You’ll do okay

Honestly, now. I see all the whining about a northward trend then see a GFS map with Olympia getting 2 feet of snow and YVR getting 6". Yes, Canada is really cleaning up. Absolute disaster for anyone else. /sarc

It's called clown range for a reason.

Good point... its just hard to imagine a huge snowstorm with those 850mb temps.  I am sure it can happen but it seems so strange.

Remember when we were discussing 12 degrees in Santa Barbara?   We can't even get the arctic air to cross the Canadian border now.

I'm going to laugh when this celebration turns into a wake as this thing continues trending north and warmer.

At least we have a nice cold morning right now. I will enjoy the present, and we can always use more rain.

I've always felt more concerned about that then about it all staying too far South.
