The ensemble is really cold too.  The control is just as cold as the op.  Mean below -11 and still dropping at where it has gotten too.

The 6z shows absolutely epic lake freezing weather. Long lasting cold and very low DP's would have even big lakes like Green Lake frozen

Mean now blows the cold all the way over the Cascades in a mountain wave event regionally. I cannot believe this is real.

The gradients get weak later on too so the night will be able to achieve max cooling.  Now we wait and see whether the snowier or colder solutions will prevail.

Looking at that cold wave in the Midwest, some impressive temps over there already. Looks like Minneapolis is -15, -4 at Chicago.

My sister lives in Madison and I told her last week she might go 10 straight days without ever getting much above 10 degrees. She thought I was crazy after the mild Winter they've had but that's looking more and more possible. Just a crazy flip across the country.

-11 with a windchill of -26 there currently.
