With how far SW the polar vortex is moving, all the systems are getting shoved into CA. At least at this time it seems like this will favor southern areas for snow and more likely to be bitterly cold and dry further north. At least initially. Of course I also kind of think the PV shifting that far SW is maybe a bit overdone and models may pull that back a tad.

Hopefully the models will pullback some as we are still almost a week out from those systems.

The highest measured barometric pressure in the U.S. is 1078.6 millibars which was recorded on January 31, 1989 in eastern Alaska at Northway which reached -62 degrees. That was right before the nasty February 1989 arctic front.

In the contiguous U.S. the highest barometric reading is 1064 millibars which was measured at Miles City, Montana, on December 24, 1983.

So then the 1054mb in SE BC in Dec 1989 would be a stout runner-up.

4km WRF also has CZ snow in Snohomish County tomorrow night. Continues the trend of centering it further South.

You it’s legit when someone says “I hope the models pull back”. #TooColdToSnow

WRF-GFS has quite a bit of precipitation around tomorrow evening from about Everett to Mount Vernon, but it shows temps just a touch too warm for anything to accumulate except maybe in the higher hills and heavier showers around that area.

Whoops, oh well. Not exactly a trend I'm a fan of, but not too surprised.

GEM 12z vs 00z. I don't know how much colder the GEM can get. It might as well move the PV right over us at this point and send that pacific energy into Socal at this rate.

I mean two runs ago it did exactly that. Delivered an Arctic blast to virtually all of California
