Middle of the afternoon and it's 15 degrees and snowing in Dallas, TX. Expecting 4-6".

This airmass is so bad@ss.

Yeah looks like sub freezing high temps all the way down to San Antonio. Really impressive stuff. Texas has actually had a few decent snow/cold events this winter. Snowed a bit when I was down in Killeen in December and a big snow event a few days after I left. Pretty impressive stuff.

West side of Olympia as of 7 PM is up to approximately 5 inches and still snowing steadily.

My front door in Troutdale this morning. Last night was incredible with 45-55 mph gusts for many hours. I'm on a hill around 300' directly facing east.

Still some hope at the end of the month!

A lot of pepto already.  The 500mb maps look very promising too.  Another major snow event this month would be insane.

Rain/snow mix here now. Good chance we maintain solid snow cover for 7-10 days here. Would put us at 11-15 days of total snow cover...had 25 days of snowcover in a row in February 2019.

Snowing here, and been snowing since daybreak, but I’m losing snow faster than I accumulate it. (Darned sun angle.)

Yeah, I just went out and measured and it is 1" less than yesterday, and large bare spots starting to appear on roofs.

Other than about a 1 hour period late morning, been snowing all day here as well.  Currently temp 32.4, Dewpoint 32.2 under fairly heavy snow.

My wife is already fretting over her commute tomorrow.  She used to work right next to the hospital, so as long as she could get to Mt Baker Hwy, she was all set.  Now she works down in Fairhaven not too far from the campus of WWU.

No doubt the models overdid precip for this area for this first round at least.  Just as well if we are past the point of getting snow now.  At least the dry easterly wind is keeping it from getting mushy here.  My concerns about ZR are diminishing for the Seattle area at least.

Mentioning what Jesse said...this was our latest sub freezing high temp here since February 2011. Not easy to stay below freezing for 2 days in a row in mid February.

And that itself was a historic late season air mass.

Maybe Feb 25 or so.  A couple of minor cold shots before that to keep things cool.

Starting to wonder how long we will have snow on the ground for. Even though it looks to warm up well above freezing starting tomorrow there is really no torching or heavy warm rain on the horizon. The snowpack here is pretty sturdy with lots of sleet and ZR mixed in. Almost glacier like.

Nothing on radar but freezing drizzle is coming down over here. Hopefully not a lot of moisture falling tonight because it doesn’t seem like we’ll warm up much. Still upper 20s.

I suspect the transition here is gonna take place as soon as the next system comes in. Too bad that one can’t track south of the island

Typically it ends quickly here when the winds shift to E or SE. We're still getting NE winds so the snow persists. The GFS keeps the NE winds going for as long as we have precipitation so even when it becomes rain it will be cold enough that there isn't significant melting. By the time the surface winds shift to onshore the airmass will have dried out so we could hang onto the snow for awhile to come, but the Feb sun angles will still work away at it.

Just got back from my quest for coffee, and I can definitely see the signs that it is warming up. The snow that had accumulated on the branches is all beginning to slide off, and the sidewalk corners are turning to slush-puddles. I was definitely overdressed for the walk, I was way too warm by the end (and I tend to freeze easily, I have no meat on my bones).

The ice is disappearing due to sublimation, a process by which ice skips the transition to water and immediately evaporates into a gas.

It has to do with the covalent bonds within the molecular structure of water, as well as the layer of water that forms on all ice above -40C/F.

37 with a light drizzle. That would seem to put a bow on things here.

Would have been nice to get a day or two of clear and cold with the snow on the ground. But no real complaints about a three day snow event that produced a foot of snow.

35 here at 2:30pm. I’m thinking 35-36 will be the max temp today. Maybe by the time some more precip comes in this evening and it’s cooled down a bit we will get some more snow? We will see. Not doing any precipitation here currently. Halfway through the month we’re running a -4.1 departure on the month at the midway point today. Unless we get some major torching in the next 2 weeks which seems really unlikely we will have a solid negative departure this month.

Like others have said, this is not your usual transition event...The lull in the precip and temp spike a bit ago would have marked the end and the next round of precipitation would be rain...That is what is ingrained in my brain...Feels good to be dumping snow with a temp drop again!
