Snoqualmie pass is still closed due to heavy rain and extreme avalanche danger... also Stevens and White passes are closed.   Just a mess in the mountains today.

December and January 2016-17 were a little below average with precip and cold here. It was a very wet water year though, October was one of the wettest on record, November was damp, and February/March were very wet as well. By far the coldest of the 10 winters I have lived up here. We had snow on the ground, most of the time from early December through early March.

You seem pretty dramatic today. This is a pretty run of the mill late winter system with a warm front and trailing cold front that will quickly drop snow levels. It's 43 here, 33-34 at the Cascade passes... Nothing to panic about.

I would get one but I don't know if I have a good shaded place to put it in. I assume I'd need a solar radiation shield or Stevenson screen.

Not panicked about anything... I don't need to go anywhere today.    I rather enjoyed watching how quickly this storm melted all the snow here!    Its just unusual when all 3 mountain passes between western and eastern WA are closed at the same time.    It is a mess up there.

I have a manual gauge and rudimentary weather station. Was going to upgrade with my Biden Buck$, but now we decided to remodel both bathrooms at the same time...So every dime is probably getting funneled into that.

GEM is somewhat interesting at day 10. In that it looks like it is primed to drop a nice trough on us. We'll see. Models have been doing that and pulling back all winter.

I know I am going to jinx it now... but the 00Z ECMWF also showed some spectacular early March weather next week with dry weather and temps into the low 60s.   This happens while it shows CA getting rain.   That would be nice.

It's true it's a mess, but the reason for that is they got like 7 feet of snow last week which makes the avalanche danger very high with rain on top of it. The rain itself is nothing special and will only last maybe 36 hours total max at Snoqualmie. I'll be skiing there tomorrow night and expect plenty of powder assuming the road is good to go!

Totally agree... I am not saying the snowpack is being ruined.    This is not unusual.    Its just interesting that all 3 passes in WA are closed at the same time.

What's with these model runs showing MBY getting significant snow with one or both of the next two troughs.  That's not supposed to happen here.  At any rate the 12z ECMWF was quite good.  Better back digging than previous runs.  A bit more continental flavor.

We've obviously entered a favorable regime.  We'll see if it amounts to anything.  Might be one of those years where next winter will pick up where this one leaves off.  That happens a lot.

We’ve been 49-52 the last few days for high temps in Tacoma the snow piles didn’t like that much. Definitely some more chances for a little snow coming up though.

There are still huge snowpiles in basically every parking lot that plowed down here. And it has been mild the last two days.

Anything that wasn't physically piled up is basically gone though. I guess there is still a sliver of what was our biggest drift on the NE side of the building. Might not last until sunset at this rate. 😰
