I totally agree.  Those were extraordinary conditions that triggered that mess last year. It was already bone dry and then that Canadian air mass turned it into a tinder box with wind.

I too agree with the controversial opinion that hot, dry conditions and wind can cause wildfires

I haven’t looked at the 12z Euro yet but it sounds like a pretty trashy run.

500mb wise it looks nice for the second trough, but the results at the surface are about as bad as you could get due to stupid SW winds.  I like the clipper though.  Nice cold shot, cold nights, and then a sunny mild day or two.  My favorite pattern in the spring if this sets any kind of precedent.  I do think we will have a notable cold snap in March though.

It is shaping up to be a very interesting winter to spring transition on the forum so far this year.

I think a lot people are going to like this spring.  Not likely to be one that features a lot of dull stratiform rainfall.

It seems like one of those years when the models show deep troughing constantly in the long range and then water it down big time once it gets into the believable range. At one point this week was looking very snowy up here. Instead it's just seasonably cool with maybe a dusting here and there at night. After the ice event, I am fine with moving right to spring, as long as we stay relatively coolish and keep working on that mountain snow pack I will take it as a win. Wouldn't shock me if we saw something hold together for a nice classic March trough, but I certainly wouldn't count on it. Last March was really nice, a lot of sunny days, fairly cool, and a few decent snow events. Something like that would be very enjoyable.

Probably my favorite March cold snap of all time was the one in March 2009. Did a lot of hiking in the gorge during that and just so many great memories. Silver Falls pulled off a 34/25 day with that one too.

That was the first time SPC ever included an Enhanced Risk for the PNW, and to have it verify too.

As long as any and all interesting weather and cool anomalies don’t turn off at some point in April I’m a pretty cheap date.

Btw I finally checked out the 12z Euro. Probably safe to throw out after hour 180.

Could take the 2008 route. Cold spring but very blocky and not too cloudy. Wouldn’t mind seeing a spring like that.

A storm I will never forget.

Both 05/30/2020 and 05/04/2017 just narrowly passed me to the north. Couldn't get a thunder from either one but there's always a tomorrow.

Had a nice one on Aug 5th though, had nearly a whole summers worth of rainfall in one storm,
and hailed for 15 minutes.

Just heard he has multiple leg injuries, in surgery right now.

Been watching the video of the scene, so far I don't see any pissed off women carrying a golf club, so there's that.

On a serious note they pointed out that he just bad back surgery again, so....this wreck can't be good for that, and....I wonder if he was whacked out on pain meds.  I have a couple of family members who have had multiple back surgeries and the pain from that is no joke...

He had the surgery a while ago, but he was still in recovery hoping to play the Masters.  I hate to think that he is hopped up on the painkillers again.  Seems odd for him to get in a solo crash like this at 7 AM.  This story is just beginning, it is going to be a media frenzy.

I hope he was not under the influence, but either way hopefully he makes a full recovery. Shows that money and success do not always equate to happiness. Sometimes success is driven by the emptiness within the human heart.
