Winds 7mph from N on the latest EUG obs, my station is calm and there are no flags blowing at all in downtown Springfield so some subtle differences already. But very minor.

OLM running -1.8 on the month, after a low of 23 this morning.

Any time you have a quiet period of weather between late September and April... OLM will run colder than almost all the other stations.   Its mostly a natural phenomenon and would happen even with development.   I suspect the second half of March is going to even things out.

Yes and no. You have to remember that anomalies are based on the long term climate tendencies of any given location.

It's mostly not natural that OLM over the last 15+ years has run easily cooler anomalies than SEA.

I imagine you must actually care to some degree despite the silly response. It’s one of your biggest talking points on here.

We probably both agree that having functioning rural weather stations representing the climate zones in this country/the world is an important thing for monitoring long term trends and teasing out the effects of UHI.

Of course.

I have no idea if the construction you described will have any effect on that.

It might shock you to hear this, but I don’t foresee this summer following in 1964’s footsteps.

Maybe 0.5-1°F below average overall? Aug/Sep might even average warm. 😱

Do you mean 1954? Although 1964 was pretty chilly, too.

He has been begging to go back to the volcanic-influenced summer of 1964... that one was chilly from coast-to-coast.  😁

What a beautiful day! Kind of let myself get lost in the beauty of early spring on the way down and back from Springfield. Great to meet TWL and hang for a bit, watch some basketball too. This guy is serious about his March Madness!

Uhh no. Some tree species burn easier than others, and native vegetation is different in different areas. This is why Australian bushfires are so bad - eucalyptus oil is flammable.

The year I lived in Oakland there was a brush fire on part of the undeveloped lands of Mountain View Cemetery. They took it very seriously, immediately summoning many nearby fire departments via mutual aid. It had not been all that long since the horrible Oakland hills firestorm had destroyed over 3,000 homes.

I was listening to the Fire Department on a scanner while watching the fire from below, and excited chatter started happening about the flames being on the brink of hitting a patch of “euc.” When it did, it literally exploded in a ball of flame. Looked like one of those action movie scenes of a car crash exploding.

850s drop to -9 on the 0z GFS.  Nice come back!

Meanwhile the dps are much lower tonight than last night and it's decoupled here.  Not sure what caused the big drop, but it will be interesting to see what the low temps look like in the morning.

Also nice to see the weekend system actually grow a pair in the home stretch.

It was crystal clear basically all day up here. There likely was some light offshore flow in the mid levels.

Fair weather cumulus were bunched up over the Cascades though.

Haven’t been a ton of positive temp anomalies since 1/15 atleast here. Second half of January was a lot cooler than the first...all of February was chilly-average and so far March has only had 1 positive departure on 3/1. Second half of winter definitely ended up a lot better than the first.
