That is one pretty system at the 500mb level on Sunday.  The 18z ECMWF continues the trend of adjusting the track / evolution to near perfection for maximum cold outcome.  Sunday could end up being something like 44 / 34 for some places.  Looks like some delightfully crisp weather early next week.

Actually... this type of strong onshore flow system would have produced rain in Seattle in December as well.   Seattle is going to have a strong SW wind from frontal passage until the precip ends.   Snow almost never falls even here when there is a strong SW wind... even in the dead of winter.    The c-zone area from Everett eastward would probably get lots of snow with this same set up though.

I have to agree.  If the surface low tracked SW across the area it would be a way different story.  Even now a track into Central WA would bring snow to the Seattle area.  I still can't believe the temperatures the models are spitting out during the SW wind burst.

Pretty much have to believe it with every one of them showing it though.

Haven't been on much lately, move to Maine is stalled and has gotten frustrating, and my mom ended up back in the hospital with a fractured skull and Covid to boot.  She was asymptomatic for most of the time, and was moved to a short term rehab facility after a week or so in the hospital.  After a few days there her O2 levels dropped, and the only way we figured out she was in distress was because of my uncle calling to say hi and realizing there was something seriously wrong (she could barely talk).    Got her back in the hospital where they found she had Covid pneumonia (apparently looks different from regular pneumonia on x-ray), and that she was in AFib.

The cardiologist could tell that her heart was trying to reestablish a normal rhythm on its own (which it eventually did) so they just monitored her.  She is in a new facility, and its the same one her older sister and brother in law live in (her older sister is fit as a fiddle but brother in law has epilepsy and dementia) so her sister will be able to keep an eye on her.

So, it's been a few weeks of suck, but its kinda nice to get back on here and see all the weather chatter and banter.  Here's to hoping that in the coming weeks the move to Maine will get back on track, and that my mom will start to get better at this new facility (and finally accept that she can't live at home any more).

I’m so sorry bro. My mom had an AFib episode after taking the vaccine. At least that’s the running hypothesis.

Covid is a b*tch.

Some of these model solutions for early April are getting kind of out there.  Could be potential for something exceptional for so late with the major -NAO entering the mix.

You'd think with 9 games tomorrow that the props would come up a little quicker but alas, still waiting. Down to 38F and beautiful stars. Very nice late nite smoke. Got the night-drive synthwave music going, even though I'm still heartbroken about not being able to ever drive again.

I'm so sorry man. You're one of the kindest people on here so hearing about things like this happening to you just breaks my heart. My thoughts are with you, as are all of ours, my friend.

Thank¬†you, you¬†are too kind.¬† My mom's situation is of course concerning, but the rest are first world problems.¬† I basically haven't worked in a year and that has gotten really friggin old, but I'm still able to draw unemployment, I got a nice severance from my company, and I have a roof over my head and food on my table.¬† Could be worse.¬† Oh and I have about 400 hours logged in MSFS 2020.¬† Hmmmm.......maybe that's not a good thing...¬†¬†ūüėÜ

I mostly have my health (though I do have 2 co-morbidities that drop me in the 1B3 vaccine group so I am vaccine eligible on 3/31...I think its the only time I am "glad" to have 2 co-morbidities).  So now I can hopefully get the vaccine before I have to start travelling, and who knows, maybe that's why fate/my higher power are delaying things....

Well... in non-COVID times we go on a ski vacation almost every year.   And we spend a week in Minnesota every summer.   And we love spending long weekends in the San Juan Islands which is my absolutely favorite place in WA state.   And we love going to Couer D'Alene.    So yeah.

So sorry to hear about all of this.  Parents getting old is very stressful in normal times.  I hope all goes well with you moving to Maine, even though I'm jealous as hell.

Thanks.  In some ways I am surprised my mom has made it this long, she has had a hard life, had 2 sons and a grandson pass on before her, raised 4 kids as a single mother with very little help or support on a secretary's salary.  She is a fighter.

As for Maine, yeah I am getting excited.  I'm on a Maine kayaking facebook group and people are anxious to get out and starting to make plans.  Looks like the ocean temp is still in the upper 30's, so might still be a little too early without some serious layering/dry suit action.  Hadn't really paid attention before, but it looks like the water temp gets down to about 34-35 in the winter.  That's a wee bit chillier than the Puget Sound in the winter.

Its amazing the difference in home prices between there and here.  It's still expensive compared to the mid-west or parts of the south, but seeing lots of houses on 1-2 acres, 2000 sq ft for $450-500k.  My dream home went pending about 2 weeks ago, but there will be others.

I went to Grants Pass back in 2018 a month before my surgeries for a jet boat ride. That's the furthest I've been from here since like 2015.

The Maine real estate market was dirt cheap before the pandemic, but has gone up a lot as people flee NYC and Boston. Still better than here though.

San Juan’s are the coolest location in Washington state IMO. Lots of amazing stuff here in Washington but the islands are on their own level.

There’s no winter pattern that can’t produce bigly in Maine.

The models haven't backed off at all on the CAA Sunday evening.  Looks like pretty much everywhere gets down to 33 or 34 with a mixed atmosphere.  In fact some places are a couple of degrees colder on this ECMWF run vs the 0z.  Pretty impressive.  Usually the timing of these things ends up slightly faster than the models indicate so Sunday's high temps could be pretty chilly.

Death To Warm Anomalies!

Winter 2020-21 stats

Total Snowfall = 7.0"

Day with 1" or more snow depth = 5

Total Hail = 0.0"

Coldest Low = 23

Lows 32 or below = 52

Highs 32 or below = 2

Lows 20 or below = 0

Highs 40 or below = 5
