March 2021 Pacific Northwest Weather Obs

Recommended Posts

Southern Vancouver Island just had a gust to 63.  Pretty serious CAA.  There are buoys well off the coast of the Vancouver Island showing temps in the upper 30s.  Those SSTs have to be cold for that to happen with onshore flow.

This front looks quite potent-- wonder if we could get a few gusts over 40 here in the Portland area.

Easily the most windy day I've experienced at the new house in Everett.

A few localized places could really get blasted later.  Really strong winds coming in through the Strait now.

What a nice day it is turning out to be, maybe some snowflakes tonight, spring can wait a few more weeks to really get going, imo!!

But did you look at the latest short term euro cloud map? Sunny and mild temps with only a flake or two if you live above 1000ft. Also, this kind of weather can be bad for the mental health of millions around here, so please, keep that in mind when you post anything that had to do with weather below 60º and where sun isn't a primary factor.

Oh, I thought about it, and concluded that it is their problem and theirs alone.

What's it feel like to experience a temp below like 10F? I have no memories of it and I wasn't here during the big cold wave in Dec 2013. I remember it being around 12F or so during the Dec 1998 dry blast.

Also what is snow drift? I don't understand the phenomenon.

Solid 63mph gust associated with it.

Could this thing hold together all the way down south to the N. Oregon coast?

This is a local feature confined to the Juan de Fuca. You'll see a separate cold front later today, and a good one at that, but unlikely to be of the caliber of this squall line.

Pretty sure we’ve already had our high temp of 46 which was at midnight down to 44 as well. Interested to see if the C-zone gets any snow or t-storms tonight...wouldn’t surprise me if there were other t-storms around the area this afternoon/evening as well.

Looks like that squall line extends further south, offshore radar isn't seeing it 100% yet.  I see these all the time hold together and usually ends up hitting PDX as well.

Yeah that squall line is looking more defined now as it moves inland.

Ended up working perfectly...Dry and breezy this morning so I was able to finish phase 2.5 of my yard rejuvenation project.
Had bigly winds for the last hour with power blinking, now it’s dumping rain and hail with the wind. 42 degrees.
Next up I will be tackling the east facing side of the house where the dogs racetrack has been.

These Strait-effect squall lines very rarely make it south of Snohomish Co. Still could get the cold front/PSCZ though
