Oh, and Black Knob, they are at 10.2" so far. That is pretty crazy and shows up gray on the mesonet site. I didn't even know the precipitation totals had that color.

It's a touch wet out, my driveway is partially under water this morning, only about the 4th time I have seen it like that in the 7yrs of living where I am. And it feels like a heatwave at 50 degrees.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Not surprising given some of those rain totals upstream over the last 24 hours.

Most of Aberdeen is flooding, 2 major landslides so far, one that has shutdown Highway 12 which is the main road in, and another hill started sliding just below the hospital.  Up to 2 feet of water in many parts of town according to some relatives.

My buddy lives in Lakeside just south of Kalispell right along Flathead Lake.  It is very pretty and only about an hour from Glacier NP.  Sandpoint certainly has more trees and more of a NW feel to it though.

I'd bet on Kalispell for much more dramatic weather changes though and summer thunderstorms.

Thanks, Andrew.

Yeah, I guess if you want a place with more precip Sandpoint wins out. But the scenery and outdoor activities available right in you backyard in Kalispell are tough to beat.

Also, though Sandpoint gets bigger snowstorms, they also get more dud winters than Kalispell.

52 degrees here, and 34 degrees in Lynden with still some snow on the ground, quite the temp contrast where the warm front is.

My preference of Sandpoint would probably be because it feels more like the PNW.

Probably bigger snowstorms. I don't mind the maritime influenced climate. I kind of like it. So the 32" of precip a year would be a plus.

13.56" in the last 24 hours. That is just insanity.

A friend of mine said the flooding is really bad in Aberdeen. Almost all the roads in and out of town are closed and there have been some big land slides and they are doing some evacuations.

I would love to experience a whole year's worth of weather in the Flathead Valley at some point. Just an awesome area.

My dad has his senior internship at Flathead Lake in college. But he decided to change his major and when he got to Colorado Springs he decided to go to San Diego instead of Montana.

It is awesome how they can lock in and maintain warm but struggle with cold. Odd but real.

Makes a lot of sense though when you think about how much more difficult it is for cold to penetrate through the Rockies and Cascades than for a simple West Coast ridge to form.

Cold patterns here are just so much more tenuous and unstable with lots of factors involved (big blocking ridge in just the right spot to our West, no undercutting, cold air in BC to drive South, offshore flow maintained, etc.) If one of those goes slightly off, we end up way less cold West of the Cascades.

A West Coast ridge is a pretty stable and easy to model large-scale pattern.

All I am asking for is a return to Little Ice Age conditions.

Looks like we transition back into a +PNA/+EPO for 2-3 weeks, starting in mid-January, before we try again with the tropical forcing retrograde/PV assault. Will the next round finally do the job?

I was supposed to be in the bullseye of heavy rain here tonight... but I am actually inside the rain shadow most of the time and its very windy.

Earlier runs of the WRF showed 5+ inches at my location through tomorrow afternoon but the heavy rain looks to end late tomorrow morning now and I am only at .60 for the entire event so far.

I think the WRF over-estimated precip again.

7.13" in the last 24 hours at the Pass. Looks like they got absolutely drenched overnight. How's it looking there?

Just depends on your preferences, but both areas are beautiful and have climates that would be pretty enjoyable for weather weenies.
