I was not expecting any rain today, but a tiny cell just passed over and produced a shower with gusty wind.  Unfortunately, all it did was get everything wet, with no benefit.

Hello from the beaches of sunny California!  I took a road trip with the family down to Carlsbad which is just north of San Diego.  A strong ridge of HP is situated just over head and bringing some very pleasant weather along the coast.  Inland, temps are Hot and its wild to see how much the temp swings in just a matter of a few miles along the coastline.  The smell of the ocean is something I miss.  Temps are forecast to top out near 80F along the coast today and drop tomorrow and Sun into the upper 60's.  Looking forward to walking the beach later today.

Meantime, back home, it appears ORD had its first Severe Storm warning of the season and produced picturesque double rainbows.

I recorded just 0.12" of rain yesterday and overnight. It looks like at GRR they recorded around 0.17" of rain fall. At this time it is partly cloudy and 45 here.  This will be the driest March, April since 2005 at Grand Rapids when 1.41" fell in March and just 0.77" in April for a total of 2.18". So far (not including today) April has had 1.84" and March had 1.51" for a total of 3.35"

Looks like the 4th year in a row with April rainfall struggling. 2017 was the last time April had above avg rainfall, also every year since then March has been wetter than April...pretty weird.

With all the temperature ups and downs April 2021 ended up as a very near average month. The mean at Grand Rapids for April was 48.5 just +0.5 from the 30 year average of 48.0. There were a total of 13 days with a mean warmer than average and a total of 17 days with a mean below average. Some of the departures were on the extreme side with departures of +23.4 on the 7th  and -16.2 on the 21st In total there were 7 days with the mean more than 10° warmer that average and 5 days with the mean more than 10° cooler than average.  There was just 1.91” of rain fall and that was below the average of 3.35. The month had 0.3” of snow fall at GRR. While the month was dry there was a good amount of sunshine as there were only 3 cloudy days all month.

Quite dry at DSM. 1.28" for April which is only 33% of normal 3.86".  Only mowed my lawn once, usually half dozen or so most years.

Its been a tale of 2 worlds.  Here near Ottumwa  I ended up with 3.2"  since Aug 2018 I can only remember  3 months substantially  below avg precip. After so many years driving  to Desmoines  and other place only to leave the dry dust for the green!

Just absolutely crazy that you guys in Iowa are 20 degrees warmer than I am today.

Yeah it was warm well into Mn. I got up to 85° while northern Iowa was a little warmer. Even Tx. was cooler under clouds. I didn’t like the windy conditions whipping the tender vegetation. Top gust here was 50 mph at 1:35pm.😕
