7th driest March on record at PDX.

I like dry and cool, but my perspective is from a place that has been abundantly wet in recent years.

As an aside I implore people to not buy an Amazon basics keyboard for your computer.  Mine sucks balls, because you have smack the letters hard to get them to show up.  I'm tired of having to go back and retype letters!  Just bought a new one today.

It did in 2017... question is how long are we still going to be paying for 2016-17 before breaking the midwinter curse.

In my way of thinking we are due for a decade with at least 3 or 4 good Januaries.  2017 was cold here, but nothing special.

2013 and 2017 were the only cold ones out of the 10 I have lived here. They were both actually pretty great, 2013, had some snow going into that inversion stretch and we had a 27/11 day at one point. January 2017 started with like 12 straight sub freezing highs. 2018-2021 has probably been one of the worst stretches in our period of record, though we did at least have a fair amount of snow the past two.

It's running cooler today here andrew but only cos we lost that pesky east wind. Looks like some high clouds are moving in from the NW now too, I assume that is the carcass of our front limping in.

62 currently.

It's a nice day. I can't complain. I don't get to irritated by a stray 70 here or there in April. 80+ and I started getting annoyed.

Yeah same. yesterday was quite decent. The cold start and east wind made it feel like a nice mid-October day.

Today is refreshing as well. I keep thinking how nice a day like this would feel by June.

That is a good one alright.  45 to 50 is probably the biggest you will ever see, and that would be years like 1951 which were ridiculous in that regard.  The EPSL away from Puget Sound can do petty good sometimes.

50 is really hard to imagine around here.

A high of 100 and low of 50?

High of 70 and low of 20?

High of 50 and low of 0?

No doubt. It would be nice to get a little more rain. Contrary to what some people think we can still have somewhat wet weather in the spring and nice days interspersed.

Those SSTs must be really cold along the coast.  Westport is 47 right now.  Another interesting note is onshore flow has reached Shelton and yet the dp is only 32.

Something like 75 - 25 or 80 - 30 on a couple of days here and there.  Just taking a quick look I was able to find a 77 - 32 day in Bothell in April 1951 for a 45 degree range.  Some years in the 1930s, 1949, and some in the 1950s had some crazy stuff.

They can produce rather broad shields of precip sometimes. Especially as deformation zones. Can be a great way to catch up across a large area late April thru June.

100/50 can happen on rare occasions at stations like Hillsboro and McMinnville at the start of a heat wave.

The all time US record diurnal range under the same airmass was set at Deeth, Nevada (east of Elko) on 9/21/54. It was an 87/12 day, 75 degrees variation.

I'll bet some places in the NW had crazy ranges in 1954 also.  When it drops into the 24 to 28 range on May 1 some big ranges are pretty easy to get.

I think the difference between the GFS vs GEM and ECMWF is going to be a common problem with the new GFS.  We've seen the new model do this every time a cold trough is possible.

Warmer than forecast once again today. 66 here. PDX has probably hit 68 between hours.

Should hopefully get some decent cooling this evening.

I think SEA and PDX can do nothing but overachieve anymore.  At any rate the prospects for tonight to be chilly are growing it appears.  The dps are remarkably low considering we now have onshore flow.  Cold SSTs helping again.  I can't believe how cold the 18z GFS is for Sunday,  Mid morning temps in he 30s this time of year is pretty real.  Sunday night look like wide spread frost again.

Some significant rainfall would be pretty nice at some point. This isn't Cle Elum or Waterville.

It sure is fun to pretend for a while though!

Cool cloud formation over The Dalles about 2 hours ago.

Also... eastern Oregon and Nevada look like another planet.  Almost no signs of life.   From an airplane... it reminds me of watching the Mars probe landing.

Central and eastern Nevada have some pretty big mountain ranges that stay snowcapped all year. Apparently there’s some legendary backcountry skiing to be had there. Parts of western NV can be pretty bleak though.

Must be smoldering wet crap season again! Yay! Had to stay confined to the house this otherwise lovely evening due to the people up from us not knowing how to burn wet brush. And also they conveniently waited until the wind was from the north so their house would not fill with smoke...But screw the neighbors!! There is my twice a year rant about how people do not know how to start a HOT fire!

Anyway 54/37 on the day
