82 degrees right now.

But...as it sits right now, with predicted low temperatures through the end of the month, April will have a lower average low than January.  Never seen that before.

Getting married tomorrow so that’s why I’ve not been around a ton of late. Looks like we are about 68F out there and are ready for some much-needed rainfall overnight.

Well I haven't been around in a while. Been a little, erm, preoccupied. Hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine and warmth lately! I'll be in Arizona for the weekend, and hopeful I don't melt!

On the lake... it feels hot out here.   No wind at all.   Boat launch was packed and there was no parking spots left.... people were parking trailers in the grass and sides of the road.    Lots of people tubing and wake surfing.    Kids are floating on tube and loving it.

It’s mid April and I just put up the AC! I’ll most likely take it back down next week but I know it’s gonna be too D**n warm inside tonight. Other than that, it’s just another spectacular day to be outside. Can’t beat this place. 😃

I'm sure.... lots of pent up energy, folks desperately needing to get out.  I wonder if its going to be another spring/summer filed with tons of rescues of people who have no business venturing into the wild.  The Navy had to pluck someone off Baker the other day, they always fly over my house going to and from the mountain.

Ah the mother in law.....I call mine the DMIL, and she calls me the DSIL...luckily we have a really good relationship.  It got started when she was working on her PhD at OSU and she stayed with us a couple of times a month when her cohort met (we lived near Albany at the time).  She would walk in the door and say "oh no, the D**n mother in law is here again"

I am intrigued about the prospects for tonight.  The max here was one degree below yesterday, the 7pm dp is way lower than yesterday, and the winds are dead with weak pressure gradients forecast through the night.  Could be looking at a low in the 30s after hitting 77 today.  That would be impressive for here.  Today was 77 / 42.

Looks like OLM pulled off an impressive 81 / 36 today.

This is one messed up year to say the least.  I have a very strong feeling we are going to see another period of unseasonably cold weather before summer comes.  The entire country has been having huge temperature swings over the past couple of months.  It would be pretty surprising to not have a big drop (to well below normal) later on.

We have been on a road trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone this week. Took a nice week off before starting a new job later this month. It’s been gorgeous.

Amazingly chilly out this way despite how warm it has been closer to the coast. It has snowed at some point the last 4 days, and most mornings have been in the teens.

The extremely boring weather back home is part of the reason I haven’t posted much, but it’s also really nice just to unplug for several days and enjoy nature. Will be back in town Monday.

Beautiful shot! Was the first sunny day here in a while and it was nice to feel some temps above the 30's again!

I'm headed down to the park tomorrow morning for a ski before the next front hits with more snow and wind tomorrow evening. Enjoy!

Actually... the 00Z GFS hold the rain just to the west through Saturday afternoon and we sneak in one more decently warm day on this run.

I concur with that. Pattern is quite dynamic right now.

Legitimate troughing out this way is a nice change of pace. Unfortunately it’s happening too late in the spring for legit cold here. Downsloping + strong insolation will deepen the mixing layer and keep highs in the 60s despite 850s possibly dropping to -8C. Even nighttime frost will be a challenge. 😒

Well Tim. It HAS to be warm for my birthday to unfold. That's mother nature's unwritten rule. THEN we will get slammed afterwards when my birthday is over.  You'll still be able to enjoy your lake to your hearts content as my birthday is not till the 21st! ;) Knock yourself out! (not literally)

Hit 83 yesterday in Gold Bar. What a change from just over a week ago having snow on the ground.

Snowpack still very healthy, water levels are great. We'll see what that warm burst of precip does though. I'm concerned for the possibility of heavy melt with high precip being a recipe for flooding. We'll just have to see.

Quite remarkably today is the 8th consecutive day to have clear skies and the ECMWF shows clear at least through Wednesday, with the exception of some low clouds setting in over the SW part of the state.  After that any cloud cover looks pretty sparse until next Saturday on which day it indicates well below normal temps and clouds.  Between now and then certainly cooler than it's been after today.

My month to date average is still below normal thanks to the average low being only 36.6 over the past week.

Backwards.    This anomalous and persistently clear pattern has allowed OLM to maximize radiational cooling due to its geography and sandy soil.    SEA is on a hill exposed to north and east wind.  SEA will be naturally warmer in this pattern... not UHI in this case.

With SEA those runways get so hot during the day and they radiate the heat at night.

One thing for sure this month is up there for greatest spread between average low and average high of any April on record.  Certainly top 2 or 3 percent.  1951 was probably even greater, but that was the crown jewel of this type of April.

Come to think of it it would be well worth it for me to go back and find the top 10 or 15 Aprils with greatest diurnal ranges.  I'm betting 1930s, 1950s, and maybe a couple in the 80s would be up there.
