Only .28 at SEA... but that is 15% of the normal rainfall for the month.    Not bad for a system that I doubted would even make it inland.

Mostly clear and 51 this morning.

Models have really started to back off from digging the late week trough and now have it scooting through quickly as an open wave. That is cutting precip way back for southern areas. Pretty tough trend to watch.

There have probably been more rain rug pulls in the mid range this spring than snow rug pulls in a typical winter.

I am openly advocating TIm be banned until we have an above average water year.

😃

I would pay money for Oregon to have a wetter than normal year.

After Thursday we will have more rain in May than we had in April. That doesn't say a lot though.

Up to .50 on the day now... heavy drizzle continuing and quite foggy too.     Its a night made for frogs out there.

I think our last .5" precip day was way back on March 20th!

May usually brings a couple cut off lows over the Sierra with some snow and thunderstorms but the models are showing nothing. Might be one of the driest April-Mays on record up here. Good news is the Mt bike trails are melted out and running great and the lake is low enough to get our beaches back this summer. Bad news will be the idiots starting fires come June onward.

A whopping 0.11" of rain overnight. Monthly total at an even 1". Our water year should pass the 60" mark, so better than 19-20' and 17-18'. But given 77" is the long term average we are still going to be well below normal unless we see a wet June and then historically wet September.

If the euro verifies through day 10 we will be at about 1/2” of rain at the midway point of the month. We average about 2.10” of rain in the month of may...and the first half so far is looking drier than normal. We will see where we end up...but definitely looks drier than the 00z yesterday which gave us about 1.2” by mid month.

I'd be fine with at least as much rainfall as KLMT had in May 2020. Somewhere between 1" - 1.5", not asking much.

The comparable station up here to your elevation (Cedar Lake at 1,560 feet) is currently at 82.36 inches for the water year and normal from October - April is 79.89.

The March/April period was the driest ever at that station (going back to 1898) and yet the water year is still running above normal.

There have been only 2 drier than normal calendar years at that station in the last 12 years... 2013 and 2019.

We have had two wetter than normal water years in the past decade, one year that was relatively average. We were above normal every month Dec-Feb, but October/November was fairly dry and now this. The writing is already on the wall for May, though it will at least not be as dry as May 2018. Hoping for a June miracle, but it really seems the dry season has already begun. Hopefully the rains move in early in September this year.

December is still a pretty wet month overall here, especially in patterns that support AR's in combination with snow events.

But November without a doubt has to be averaging less snow than March at my place. 1991-2020 normals have gotta switch these two around. Long time locals remember Thanksgiving usually having snow on the ground here. That happens maybe twice a decade these days.

We have 1 road in and out of town. If a major fire breaks out on a summer weekend we will have around 80k people trying to leave at the same time. The city put out their new evacuation map plan and it pretty much says leave your car and run into the lake if your in my neighborhood. That was my plan anyway.

Nice hail pics ;)

Some stones were at least nickel at my house. Likely wasn't the largest that evening; a few grocery stores just down the hill from my house had water pouring indoors, and there was over an inch accumulation of hail in parking lots. Someone was caught in a flooded underpass and had to be rescued.

As far as light shows go, May 4 2016 was probably my 2nd greatest in terms of lightning frequency.

Thanks for sharing that! Half dollar or silver dollar you think?

My largest hail was quarter size (1") last summer on August 5th. I need to try to get a few minutes of that uploaded, but overall the footage wasn't the greatest.

Thanks for sharing that! Half dollar or silver dollar you think?

My largest hail was quarter size (1") last summer on August 5th. I need to try to get a few minutes of that uploaded, but overall the footage wasn't the greatest.

Golf ball size is usually about as big as the hail gets up here although that footage had some slightly bigger than golf ball.

There was one storm in June 1987 my neighbors remember, very large hail resulting in lots of damage at a car dealership. Funnel clouds reported as well. That storm and one in 1995 here were actual supercells.

So there has been hail maybe tennis ball size a couple times. You'd have to live here for a chunk of your life though to experience ones that big.

April temperature departures... from south to north.

EUG  +2.2

SLE +2.9

PDX +2.9

OLM +0.9

SEA +2.7

BLI +2.3

OLM is definitely representative of the I-5 corridor.     The other 5 stations are the outliers.   🙄

You left off Seattle WFO. +1.6

Said band of moisture should reach here around 3-4pm likely giving Bozeman its first storms of the year. Models have been pretty bullish in dropping 0.5-1" of rainfall.

While April wasn't nearly as dry in Bozeman compared to you guys, (1.74" of precip for April) we are teetering on drought conditions as well as we enter the wet season and can use all the moisture that we can get.

We have been fortunate here. Been a wet spring and that looks to continue with plenty more precip possible in the next week or so.

Its not trolling... Jared says OLM is representative but its not always that way.

No. I've said OLM's anomalies are much more representative to their own history than SEA's. SEA is quite often the warm outlier for the Puget Sound region (OLM, Seattle WFO, SEA, BLI).

Although, now that the period of comparison for anomalies is 1991-2020, SEA probably won't run quite as "warm" relatively speaking.

Yeah... its going to be much harder for SEA to run above normal.    Its a cold anomaly lovers dream.   Just set the bar much lower and its all good!
