June Observations and Discussion

The morning storms were all bark, no bite.  There was some decent, streaky lightning across the north sky as the line moved in, but the convection was bubbly and only 0.04" of rain fell.

The 12z HRRR keeps many of us capped tonight.  It has a few cells in northern Iowa, and far ne IL gets scraped, but it's mostly Wisconsin into Michigan.

Just a few sprinkles here. The storms are falling apart right as they are moving into my area. We did get some thunder for the first time in a long time though.

I heard plenty of thunder from last week’s scattered convection, but only 0.05” rainfall so far this month.

Saw a discussion on Twitter where they’re thinking the HRRR is going to be wrong. I hope it’s not right, but I’m afraid it could be.

To much capping around here for now, but I’m surprised storms are already going in northern Iowa. Was the HRRR showing it this soon?

I noticed some clouds trying to get going to my west and there’s even a weak shower sw. now. Probably all it will do for now.
My brother around 7 miles se. got 0.20” this morning.

No,  it wasn't, so maybe models are off base tonight.  SPC issued a mesoscale discussion showing a possible watch to be issued in northern Iowa.  For those of us further south, we have to hope it grows into a full fledged MCS and does the classic back building with the south and even southwestern expansion.

The Euro had 100+º surging up into Iowa today for at least the last week, so kudos to the Euro.  My area has managed to remain a bit lower this afternoon, only reaching the low 90s.  The heat index in Cedar Rapids is only 94º, which really isn't that bad.  The humidity is only moderate and there is a nice breeze, too.

The northern Iowa storms are looking rather meager at the moment, probably struggling with the cap.

You guys have my sympathy.
It’s practically a cold wave here at 98* at 5pm.  Humidity 34%  Feels like 103*.

Temps will lower Saturday a few degrees.  But Texas humidity is what it is.
Hang in there.

Warmest day in a few years around here. Tomorrow most locations should exceed 100 degrees.

I was not expecting to get anything this evening or overnight, so this pop-up line is a surprise.

Just went from hot to jungle like in just a few minutes here at KDSM. Thought the dewpoint was kitty wampus- sadly it's accurate.

Like this morning, there just isn't much rain falling out of these cells.  I'm getting very brief bursts of big drops, but it's just light rain, only enough to wet the ground.  This morning was all bark, no bite.  This evening there isn't even any bark.
