A brief description a weather phemenon that occurred in Northern Manitoba. When? early October

Weather conditions: Heavy low clouds, snowflakes about the size of a dime which covered the bottom of the boat in about 30 minutes, temperature about 30 degrees, wind virtually calm.

My friend an I were in a boat casting for lake trout.  Suddenly, the nylon shelled parka I was wearing began to vibrate and make a distinct buzzing sound. Also, I could feel he same kind of vibration coming thru the monofialment line on my fishing rod.   At this same time, my friend who had just casted a heavy spoon said "my line wont go down".  Looking over, I could see his line suspended mid air in a long arc which was keeping the casted spoon from sinking.

All of this happend in about 10-15 seconds. At the end, the vibration and buzzing suddenly stopped and my friends line fell from its suspened position.

Curious about what happend here.

Jim
