Looks like the marine layer is creeping into the Shelton area as we speak. 68 and clear nice summer night.

ECMWF pushes the low clouds all the way out here by morning and then it clears from the SE to NW around noon.   Not sure I believe the clearing will be that thorough.

Here is the cloud loop for the next 2 days... which includes high clouds as well but its pretty easy to track the low clouds.

Come on Tim, this is just nihilism with a layer of Zen makeup. If we knew for months in advance that a 6 mile diameter meteor was headed towards us, would you say we shouldn't try to deflect it or break it up because it's natural and happened before 66 million years ago? And if you think we should try to do something in that scenario, why would it be any different for climate change and environmental degradation if we thought we could do something about it?

Of course the planet will recover just fine in a relative geological blink almost no matter what do, but what most people care about is maintaining conditions to continue prosperous and healthy human civilization long into the future.

I saw both those movies!  Both were pretty awful, but were released in 1998. Had a nice little Arctic blast that December……

This is all true but it might not be in our control.    Ironically... deflecting an asteroid might be easier than reversing climate change which might be happening on a natural scale as well.    But we should do everything we can.

And climate change is not all bad... some areas will benefit.  Humans have thrived because the world is currently in a stable, relatively warm inter-glacial period.   A super-volcano could send things quickly in the other direction and wipe out humanity in short order.

Warmer means longer growing seasons and potentially better crop yields. Cold is far more damaging to humans.

Surprise light show and low thunder off to the east.  Both GFS and Euro showed a swath of clouds racing up from the south at this time, but none generated much of any action.  Still, nice to see but scary given the lightning strikes into the forest.

Wanted to take a trip tomorrow down to a crystal clear creek that drains into the Klamath River just NW of Chiloquin.

Looks like I’ll have to reconsider now.

Fire resources are going to be strained this year since this fire seasons starting early…could be close to twice the length of a normal fire season. We’re at early to mid august levels of dryness basically. Seems more necessary than ever that we get some rain regionally.

Spring Creek that drains into Williamson River? At Collier State Park? Might as well, that whole area burned last September. The day use area is still open though.

Here are a couple pics I took from the day use area at Collier State Park. The fire was mostly along the north bank of Spring Creek in that area, though it did jump the stream in spots. The logging museum looks like it survived.

This was the Two Four Two Fire and it burned about 14,500 acres in the days following Labor Day. 33 structures were destroyed 48 damaged.

Went through that area not long ago and yes the logging museum survived.  Unsure how the campground did but looked like it was in the burn zone :( .

My Dad was messaging me about it for some reason yesterday. He said he read 370 out of 450 acres of the park burned, and the Oregon department of Forestry was giving the parks department 276,000 Ponderosa seedlings for re-planting in the next year.
