86 here. Seems to have plateaued.

Think we may have maxed out with the north breeze coming in off the water.

Today was our 6th +85 day of the year…only had 4 total in 2020 and 2 in 2019.

I lost count how many of those I've had.

Lol, we average 8 +85 days per year and we will have reached that number by the end of July. Still all of August to get through too.

I remember there was speculation from someone one month ago right now about summer ending on July 5th this year.  🤔

90's don't stop until middle of September, so if this is another warm or normal start to Fall, I should hit 45-50 days over 90 this year.

1 in 30 is probably about right for most of the Puget Sound (depends of course on how close to the water the exact location is) but for the Willamette Valley 100+ has occurred in probably 50-60% of years since the mid 1920s. In PDX's 81 year period of record only 35 of those years went without a triple digit day, so 57% of years have hit 100. It's a different story before that though, from 1874 (the first year of records for downtown Portland) through 1903 there was a grand total of one 100+ day in that 30 year period.

The warming in the last 90ish years has been mostly from a decline in the number of cool, troughy days, declining influence of the marine layer, and an increase in the number of days in the mid 80s to low-mid 90s. Though who knows, perhaps this year is an ominous warning sign of an increase in the number of days with extreme heat.

Yeah growing up in the Willamette Valley I would say probably 2/3 of years hit 100. We had big heatwaves when I was a kid. 1992 had some very hot weather (105 in June and August), 4 100+ days in a row in 1994. But we also had some relatively coolish summer months and a lot of marine layer days.

There are 3 June records from 1992 that still stand today, 97/100/100 from the 21st-23rd here. The only other instance it hit 100 was 6/30/1918. Of course I broke that monthly all-time this year with last months wave when I maxed 103.

I saw a few 80s sprinkled inland in the north end Puget Sound.

A decent amount of clouds at the moment. It's covering the sun and I think I hear people rejoicing. :D

You definitely are on the chilly end of the spectrum here!

It's also fair to mention that SLE's average high for today is 2F warmer than PDX. So if their high was 2F warmer, that is essentially what would be expected, i.e. not an outlier.

Sorry, SLE #1, PDX top 5. Most places east of the cascades will blow away their warmest July's on record. It will be interesting to see where this month ranks for the states. Could be #1 for Oregon.

August was the only really warm month for the PNW June-September, but that's still kind of amazing.

Yeah 2019 was a really nice summer quite a bit of rain and only got warm on 2 days the entire summer locally. The main thing that bumped the averages up here was the warm overnight lows…the max high temps were close to average.

Tacoma WA elevation 300’

Monthly rainfall-3.56”

Warm season rainfall-11.14”

Max temp-88

+80 highs-2

+85 highs-2

+90 highs-0

You definitely are on the chilly end of the spectrum here!
Hit 87* here and currently 86*

No doubt... the temperatures at that location are unlike pretty much all of western WA except for right on the Sound.

Got blasted by a nasty-arse t-storm tonight. One of the strongest I’ve personally experienced. Everything is busted up.

OT I know, but it was a hell of a birthday gift from ma’ nature. Tomorrow it becomes a major headache I’m sure.

OLM is trying to stretch for their first 90 of the month.

Medford has hit 98 or higher 14/26 days this month so far. Eugene is still trying to stretch for their first 98 of the month though, so not that hot regionwide.

Fun fact: Average midsummer highs increase rapidly with decreasing latitude in the western PNW.
