Our anticipated pattern change may also kill the SW monsoon. Not sure who could use more moisture, long term.

You can never fully win nowadays it seems.

We’re 3 degrees ahead of yesterday at this time. I’m thinking 87-90 today…88-91 tomorrow for a range of possibilities the next 2 days.

I'll take one order of the 6z GFS.  Really nice run!  Let's see if we can pull out an August that might be to most people's liking.

As for July...we were doing ok until the very end of the month.  No doubt this summer hasn't worked out like I thought it would.  It's truly remarkable that both July and August have failed to have average below normal over the past 10 years for many stations.

Just checking out the 06z. Looks like rain in W. WA as early as Monday, then some light rain into NW Oregon one week from today. Would be miraculous.

First week of August seems to be a real good time period for storms.

Several have landed exactly on August 5th various years which I think is interesting. 2 were severe.

Another positive thing about August storms at least here; I've never had a dry thunderstorm in early August, or probably not at any point of the month. We should phasing ourselves out of that as an issue.

It could be worse though this month overall in the Seattle area wasn’t too bad until today and tomorrow…and most years don’t work out the way we expect! As for the last decade of July’s and August’s…the only ones that have came close to below normal was July 2019 and 2020 here locally. August has been worse recently for the most part.

Id imagine this’ll get toned down a bit as we approach it but still very nice to see some decent rain totals showing up on the models.

Let's hope any storms don't end up being dry.  That would be a disaster.  I was in Cle Elum yesterday and the official Forest Service sign said extreme fire danger.  The earliest I can remember them having it that high.

Looks great.  Second year Ninas are usually good for us here.  I must say this summer has really surprised me so far though.  I thought it might be really dry, but I thought more influence of the Pacific High would mitigate the heat.

A very interesting note is SEA hasn't had an August even come close to averaging below normal in a decade.  Would be a pretty big deal if it were to happen this year.  We'll see.

The cold shoe will drop on us eventually.  The question is when.  I'll make a firm prediction of an exceptional cold trough sometime in the August through October range.  You are welcome to dig up this post as a reminder if I'm wrong.

We are still at "High" on the local fire station board. We just had two fires in the area yesterday though, a small grass fire started by someone mowing, and then the country store's porch caught on fire from someone throwing a cigarette in the dry grass next to it. I still need to do some field mowing, but definitely not something I will be doing until this heatwave abates. Just focusing on trimming low branches off the trees and clearing out brush and smaller trees.

The cold shoe will drop on us eventually.  The question is when.  I'll make a firm prediction of an exceptional cold trough sometime in the August through October range.  You are welcome to dig up this post as a reminder if I'm wrong.

The cold shoe will drop in late Oct around my birthday, which will bring our coldest temps of the fall-winter. Just like last year...

In central OR the fire danger was extreme at the beginning of the month when I was there. From just after Santiam Pass the fire danger signs were pretty serious about no fireworks, no campfires, etc.

Didn’t hear a single firework on the Fourth of July and left just before the Bootleg Fire exploded. There was convective activity on a lot of days down south towards Klamath Falls and CA (which started the Bootleg Fire) but only one day had it making it up to Sunriver, and it was a few thunderless showers by the time it got there.

Hoping it's as stormy as Aug 6-10 2017. Every other day was a decently strong storm in the area. 1" hail and flooded streets hit Altamont on the 8th. Two days later was a good couple hours long soaking in downtown KF and a nice shelf cloud went through right before.

We always get a lot of folks here do fireworks thru 1am 7/4-5. About a week after it's usually just 1 high person doing a loud one at some random time of night and sirens follow (lol). I haven't heard one in a couple weeks so it seems like some people are aware things can easily just light on fire this year.

That thunderstorm outbreak Monday could drop 1-2" of rain in a lot of spots east of the Cascades.

Will be in Spokane to Coeur d’Alene on Fri-Sun, and driving home Monday. Hoping for a nice lightning show while I’m there.
