Positive (westerly)  200mb zonal wind anomalies are a very ninaish signal.

Yes, though that is 200mb velocity potential not U-wind anomaly. But dateline subsidence is typical during La Niña (esp central/west based) and Indian Ocean MJO transits.

Much cooler than expected today, only 86 so far for a high at SLE and it looks like they are currently down to 84. Don't worry, an 86/69 spread should still clinch the warmest July of all-time!

Currently 65F and full cloud deck.  Even a few errant drops of precip at times, but only one's and twos.  No actual showers or rain.

The temperature has actually gone down since I posted this.  It is 63F outside.  Still completely cloudy.  A few online forecasts claim there is a 40% chance of showers around 7pm tonight in my area.  I'll believe it when I see it.

No doubt we are locked in a repeating regime right now where ENSO SST anoms consistently peak during the northern hemisphere summer months and fall during the autumn and winter.  We've seen that for a number of years now.

GFS up to its usual waffling. Unfortunately this is the driest run it has featured in a while for W. WA for the first week of August. Not too concerned just yet, see few more runs. 12Z Euro was showing a nice soaking still.

Still looks the same at the 500mb level.  Surface stuff always waffles.

I’d bet on the euro. It’s still pretty good most of the time…interested to see how the upgrade goes.

I wish it was. But it’s nice enough as is..no complaints from me at the moment.

Nice when things bust in a good direction isn’t it? Rarely seems to happen that way.

Yeah I guess so, weird seeing run for the first time in over a month but in a much drier climate on the east side here.  Kids still played in the lake so I guess it was a good day.  It was overcast all day too.

Hard to believe we are heading into yet another 3-4 day run of heat after today. That escalated quickly.

Some dwindling rainfall chances at the end of that tunnel, but wouldn’t surprise me to lose that entirely at some point in the next 48-72 hours.

Update 3 for the day.  Still 63F.  We topped at 65F today.  No rain yet, but I hope.  Fingers crossed.

Yeah, but you have to admit we got pretty D**n lucky. Highs under performed by about 10-15 degrees today and yesterday in many places.

Already planning on setting some time aside tomorrow to write up a post on all the record warm July's the region saw.

Looks like EUG ended up with 18 90+ highs this month. SLE 16, one less than 2018.
