We were thinking about going to... but you have to be able to be mobile depending on the weather and that won't be known until about 5 days beforehand.   It's easier when its close to home!  I guess you could just be in Tulsa and go from there.

Yeah, that was kind of what I was thinking. We can just do it as a long day trip.

12Z EPS shows the ULL dipping down to the PNW for a few days late next week and then shows the 4CH expanding again and pushing everything back to the north and west.

Sounds like a realistic solution.

Nice to be able to come back and still experienced the marine layer this morning. It was pretty much wire to wire cloud cover at Cannon Beach so it’s nice to get some burn off inlands. The mariner layer was thick enough here this morning to produce some overnight dew so it must be nice for the plants.

Another total eclipse coming in 2024... Texas should be the popular spot for that one since its in April and clear weather is more reliable down there at that time of year.

It goes right through where my inlaws live. We may pass on it. 2017 was pretty cool even though we never went anywhere to get the full effect.

EPS has an MJO-turning-CCKW crossing the Pacific during week-2. This suggests (to me) a more variable pattern over the next 3 weeks (as opposed to unrelenting troughing).

Interestingly enough, guidance hints at an emergent dipole signal over the IPWP associated w/ stronger ISM which generally isn’t favorable to keep convection over the West-Pacific for long periods of time.

Would be a huge, huge win if we can avoid a Beirut sodium-nitrate explosion over the west-pacific between late July and mid-August, and instead keep convection in the Indian Ocean.

Finally swapped out and calibrated my new temp/humidity sensor. Sure enough, the old sensor was apparently running about 1-2 degrees too high with the dewpoint.

Back in line with other sensors now.

Next up: UV sensor (dead) anemometer (almost dead), and rain gauge (almost dead).

Man this equipment degraded quickly. It’s a mess. That thunderstorm was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Lots of speckly, terrain-driven clouds over BC... but does not appear to be any big fires or large areas of smoke.    It looks so much better than last week.

I'm not sure the brand, it was given to me by a co-worker and I used it to replace my old station. It just stopped working. I thought maybe it was the batteries, but it still does not work after I changed them. I've never had a top of the line station, thinking of upgrading when I get a new one.

If you can afford it, I’d definitely upgrade to a unit with detachable sensor components for versatility in siting, as opposed to an all-in-one unit. The higher quality stations are not only more accurate, but also last longer, not to mention the sensor components can generally be replaced without replacing the entire unit.

I’ve had the same ISS for a decade. Swap out sensors and electrical components as needed. In fact, I’m going to replace the fan aspirator and clean the fins on my unit when I return from vacation. Should take 30 minutes, max.

Still don't have the official #'s from Silver Falls during the heatwave, but Silverton hit 113, broke their previous all time record of 104 which was set in 1981.

SEA jumped 6 degrees in the last hour... up to 77 now and will probably get over 80.   Inversion is definitely weaker today.

Just bumped up to 76 now so 80 is looking more likely here too.

Next up: UV sensor (dead) anemometer (almost dead), and rain gauge (almost dead).

Man this equipment degraded quickly. It’s a mess. That thunderstorm was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

You might as well just get a new station. I’ve been looking for a new one and will wait until the rainy season starts to get.

Dew point above 80°F! Fun times!

Seriously, the one afternoon BLI had with DP’s in the mid/upper 70’s a week and a day ago was bad enough.
