Stays warm but is much more palatable than previous runs. Now we just need some rain.

Actually quite a bit warmer than the 12Z run... but the total lack of rain is pretty annoying.   Just one wet day would be great.

63 here…will be another +60 minimum today. Riding an impressive +60 low temp streak…have never had more than 4 in a row but today is #7.

Looks like a pocket of warmer water in the Strait of Georgia after the heat wave. Looks like temperatures around 22~24C (72~75F). Would be a great time for a trip up to Parksville.

We average 25 days +80 and 2 +90 days per year here. So far we’re at 10 +80s and 3 +90s. Not to mention 2 +100s.
The hottest summer on record (2015) had 40 days +80…and 5 days +90. Should be interesting to see how this summer ends up comparing to that one.

we average about 17 +80 days in July and august combined so we’re ahead of schedule.

I know this isn’t a geology forum, but Taal volcano on Luzon is rumbling, incredibly high levels of So2 have been emitted around the caldera this past few weeks. Will be interesting to see if it there is a large eruption. Hopefully everyone can be evacuated and there is no loss of life if that happens.

Hoping for everyone to be safely evacuated and a VEI 4+, so we can knock the global temp down a few degrees for a bit.

I do wonder about the aerosol deposition in the tropopause/stratosphere from the fires. Experience/intuition suggests minor/none, though the Australian wildfires did have an impact on the NHEM strat+trop PV. Unfortunately, aerosol deposition in BC (thus far) doesn't seem to have come remotely close to the extent of the Aussie fires, so the destruction may be all for naught.

It's an early fire season. We may come to rue this comment tbh. East of the cascades is a tinderbox just waiting for a light

Despite being a developing country, the Philippines has generally done a pretty good job on volcano safety. They saved a lot of lives by moving decisively to evacuate people from around Pinatubo before it had its big eruption. They have already established a safety perimeter and started evacuating people from around Taal.

Looks like smoke aloft is moving out of BC into northern WA. Should be aloft but it’ll be noticeable once the clouds burn off.

HRRR says smoke aloft should be a thing west of the mountains until Sunday evening. Not forecast to get down to the surface on the west side… for now.

Yeah... another GFS run this morning showing temps around 100 eventually in Portland.     Not a good trend right now.
