July 2021 PNW Weather Discussion

There are no fires here. This crap is all coming from the West.

Seriously, I’ve never seen it this bad. Ever.

There are many parts of the West... western WA is not the source of your problem.     So we don't claim any responsibility here.  👍

There are fires in the PNW. Which happen to be the source for this particular plume.

It was rain and showers all morning until about noon in Lynnwood and Everett.  It was wonderful.  I got soaked!  I don't know when it started, but it was raining at 8:00am.   🥲 The rain felt so good!!!

It did not hit 70F here today.  We were in the mid to upper 60s as out high.

Had some beautiful soothing stratiform rainfall this afternoon thanks to monsoonal moisture. Smoke is gone (for now) and the vegetation was very thankful for the slight reprieve from this forgettable summer.

I don’t see the signal you’re seeing (at least not yet). Definitely not a cool signal either, westside PNW is essentially stuck between the 4CH and GOA trough.

The GFS is just doing stupid things with ULLs again. Every 2-3 runs it goes wild with amplification.

Euro and GEFS showed it too.

Happy for Giannis and the Bucks.

In a league where star players constantly pick up and build a super-team to chase titles, Giannis did it the right way. He had the chance to leave Milwaukee but stuck around. Good for him... still only 26.

Looks like its mostly clear along the WA coast... with the marine layer focused inland again.

The 00Z ECMWF showed today being the last day with the marine layer inland.   Very little in the way of low clouds being shown over the next 10 days other than along the coast.    That also means the ECMWF cool bias will likely be back after today.

Anyone who thinks Jim disappeared because things aren't going his way are wrong... he absolutely loves this type of weather.   I am sure he is just taking a break and gearing up for fall.

Surprised he hasn’t popped in to talk about the cool lows this morning then I looked at the Obs. Map and it was actually cooler here than Covington. EPSL and north of Seattle didn’t get as cold as the south Puget sound towards Shelton and Olympia this morning.

Still probably won't be enough for a sub-80 high at SLE. Could be the first July on record without one. Today is probably the only chance for it the rest of the month. The surprising lack of morning clouds will be a limiting factor. Of course a high of 80 today would be a -5 departure.

Yep. A month without extremes either way, unless something changes towards very end of month.

EDIT: Although we could see some impressively cool low temps tomorrow morning.

I figured yesterday would be a negative departure and it didn’t end up that way. We will see how long the clouds hold on it’s clearing up down by Olympia. We have a bit better shot at a negative departure today even if we clear out earlier than expected due to us getting down to 52 this morning.

Would be nice to get down into the 40s! Haven’t had a low temp below 50 since 6/17.
