What a tragedy. When we evacuated last year we left most of our animals. Just opened all the gates and hoped for the best. They enjoyed eating the garden while we were gone.

Smoke hasn't been too bad here the last couple of days due to the weak system front that moved through.

AQ has been hovering around the 50's so things are staying elevated for the time being.

Yeah I’ve been watching the satellite imagery closely for awhile now across the west. Very alarming just how many fires are everywhere and so early in the season.

Really noticed how those fires in northern WA took off today. The fire in Nespelem destroyed 7 homes (4 vacant). Sounds like they lost a lot of livestock as well. Latest info I can find is 10,000 acres.

Almost always the case with troughing... its a no win situation when it gets to this point.   Troughing can actually make things much, much worse.    See Labor Day 2020.

Yeah I guess I’m just thankful we’re not dealing with the smoke for now. Next 2 days could be pretty destructive in eastern WA/OR though hopefully not too many homes or structures are lost.

Not the point.   Obviously this is completely different... the trough is staying offshore.   This will not result in offshore flow or any additional issues on the west side.

But troughing almost always brings windy conditions east of the Cascades with onshore flow.    And that could be very problematic the next few days.

Red Apple Fire in Chelan County:

- started before 7pm on July 13

-Level 3 evac

-230+ homes and orchards threatened

-1000 acres and rapidly growing

what’s most concerning is how fast this fire is spreading. I suspect the current level 3 map shown below will expand by morning.

One scenario that could really help the region out is what some people here live in absolute fear and dread of. A summer trough parking itself directly over the PNW for 3-4+ days with stratiform rain and drizzle at times.

The problem is baking under ridging and warm anomalies for months/weeks then getting these glancing blows from weak troughs that aren’t even able to fully move through the region. Just enough to stir things up without any of the benefits.

Deepening marine layer on this side of the mountains means onshore flow is ramping up... that fire is going to be very active for the next couple of days.
