Susanville, CA right now.

This fire extends almost all the way from Paradise to Susanville. Imagine a fire starting in Portland’s easternmost suburbs and going all the way over the Cascades to Dufur. That is the scale of this fire. It is enormous.

That is similar to the scope of the Santiam complex last September. The lions head went from warm springs to the beachie creek fire which stopped right by silver falls and mehema.

The 135,000 acre white rock lake fire continued to be pushed by high winds yesterday. The city of Vernon is mostly under an evacuation alert now. Something like 40,000 people

Locally, We had an 80 acre fire flare up on the Mt Prevost yesterday. Only about 8 miles outside of Duncan.  They issued a local state of emergency as the winds were pushing the fire towards populated areas. Rain came just in time last night.

“DUNCAN, BC – A State of Local Emergency has been issued due to the wildfire burning on the north slope of Mount Prevost located in Electoral Area ‘E’ and the Municipality of North Cowichan.
The wildfire has now grown to 32 hectares and will be monitored overnight with shifting weather conditions. Available fire response resources have been deployed to the site, and winds are expected to shift overnight which may exacerbate the fire.”

Hopefully just enough of that area was burned last year that no fires are near you from now on. That must have been frightening.

Just found this pic of the East Troublesome Fire last October in Colorado. Pretty unbelievable. When I flew back a week later there was snow on the ground.

Here is a quick rundown on the active fires burning west of the Cascade Crest in Oregon. From south to north.

Devil's Knob Complex 4,651 acres 5% contained

Skyline Ridge Complex 3,087 acres 23% contained

Rough Patch Complex 4,765 acres 3% contained

Middle Fork Complex 5,097 acres 2% contained

Knoll Fire 400 acres 0% contained

Bull of the Woods Complex 666 (!) acres 0% contained

Only one really active fire east of the Cascades in Oregon right now, way way out there south of Prairie City.

Black Butte Fire 14, 521 acres 5% contained.

Devil's Knob Complex, Rough Patch, and Middle Fork Complex have the potential to make some real serious noise in coming days. Given it's remote location I would guess the Black Butte Fire will end up burning some serious acreage though a lot of it is sagebrush and shrub.

Looks like the 3 alarm brush fire in South Hill that prompted evac orders is 100% contained. Thank goodness for that... crew made very good progress sometimes after 7-8pm when the wind died down. Unfortunately, one firefighter did have to go to the hospital for heat exhaustion. Hope that person is doing alright. This time of the year can be quite brutal with the fires.

Update: August 14, 6:45 pm

The Tremont Creek wildfire has exhibited significant growth to the south and east. The fires edge is now within the northern boundary of the District of Logan Lake. Airtankers have been supporting throughout the afternoon and remain on scene. Ground crews, structure protection personnel and fire apparatus are established in Logan Lake to protect from ember cast and will maintain a 24 hour presence.

The District of Logan Lake has issued an expanded Evacuation Order to include Highland Valley Copper Mine. For more information please refer to the District of Logan Lake.

There has been aggressive fire near Tunkwa Lake this afternoon as a result of strong gusting winds. Structure protection has been established in this area and helicopters have been supporting with bucketing operations when visibility allows.

These were pics I snapped last night. Looked like hell on earth.  Still up here. Fire in pic looks closer than it is. Still a few miles away but not moving this direction anymore at the moment.  Worked all night building a fire break road around my cabin and trimming tree's and clearing more debri from ground.

More unfortunate news as the Chelan County fire named Twenty Five Mile, calls for extended evacuations.  Hopefully the rain pounding Northwestern Washington will help a lot of these fires to die out.

I am confused... there is definitely no rain "pounding" NW WA and how would rain on the west side of the mountains put out a fire east of the mountains?

It's been raining on and off here in Everett since 3pm.  There were periods of heavy rain and winds.  There is a light mist currently at 9:50pm.  Was hoping this rain was going to soak the Kitsap Peninsula and take the fires down there and sneak east and help there too.

Hard to call this rain "pounding" NW WA... and even KPAE has only picked up .10 which is not exactly a big rain event.

I'm just having fun with words here. Come on.  I'm just super excited to see rain and hear it on my roof. I think everyone is for the most part.

But if you want to get all statistical, the rain gauge for me is at .35 for the past 24hrs.  I know I am not Paine Field, but the precipitation is different even in just short distances from each other. The downtown station had .47 inches. Paine Field is a poor location for Everett to keep tabs, as most of the city is sea level and on the water.  Paine field is the highest point in the city and far from the majority of the city.

If Paine Field only got have .10, that is an outlier for the city.

Man, what an experience. Gives you a whole new appreciation for what some folks do all season every year. Hard work is an understatement.

Taking a much anticipated trip back to NW Montana now.

Glad you made it through safe big fella.

That is similar to the scope of the Santiam complex last September. The lions head went from warm springs to the beachie creek fire which stopped right by silver falls and mehema.

Almost looks like Mars.

The fire outside of Bumping Lake has exploded and is now double its size over two days. This one hits close as that lake was my childhood summer.

WTF is with the downvotes on my posts.  Sheesh.
