June 2015 Observations and Discussion

The first month of meteorological summer is almost here.

Heard some talk of a warmer than normal June. Some sources have said stormy for our regions too.

One outlook by Brett Anderson shows wet conditions to persist into summer.

After what should be the last significant cold front of this cycles cold phase over the weekend, I'm beginning to see the models popping the ridge this month as the LRC rolls into the warm phase of this year's cycle which should last about 3 weeks.  I wouldn't doubt seeing some stormy periods as we enter the warm period.

Well the southern Plains states don't need that type of pattern that the EURO is suggesting!

Weekend weather really took a bite out of the recent warming of Lake Michigan.

High of only 56° today, low 41°.

58° is pretty nice with the sun out I think. High of 64° here briefly today.

Low of 38° this morning though. The lowest June low since it reached 37° on 6/1/2003. Definitely coat weather this morning - early.

Absolutely gorgeous outside. Great weather for my workers to work on my property today and the rest of this week. After all that rain I received over the weekend, ugh. A bit nippy I must say for this time of the year with 40s presenting themselves now for the past couple of nights. Down the road, it looks warmer, but no heatwave here in SEMI for the near future. Its better comfortable, than not being comfortable. The 90s can stay south of the Ohio border. ;) :D

Parts of the Plains may see their first summer heat wave right around the 12th as the warm phase of the LRC really kicks in.  Will be interesting to see how much the wet soils have an effect on this warming as the jet stream retreats north.

First three days of June and it hasn't cracked 70° yet... or been warmer than 45° at night.

Looking forward to next weeks weather.  Much of the nation will have high temps in the 80's or higher and minimal chances of rain.  Summer is here to stay!

Great comeback victory by the boys of Winter & Spring!  #3 more wins to go!  Let's Go Hawks!  Bring Lord Stanley back home to Chicago!

It's plenty warm and summery.  The odd stat is we still have not exceeded our March 16th high temp (82) since that day.  DVN has us in the 80-82 range for the next week, which I'd be happy with.  The only problem is the thunderstorm/severe season across the region has largely been DOA.  Earlier in the week the Thursday action looked promising, but it trended much farther sw.  Now the Saturday night/Sunday morning action looks decent, but several system have over the last month and most have pooped out in some way.

Made 81° today. With a bit more humidity it felt like summer.  Back to spring weather tomorrow with 50s likely.

Nothing but 80s next week starting sunday (850 mb temps actually support widespread 90s on Wed) and today will be in the 60s... not 50s.

GFS/GGEM showing near 90F both Wed/Thu...AC's will be cranking next week with the heat and humidity.  It's strange that we haven't seen our 1st 90F temp at ORD yet this year.

That's what I thought but it's kinda odd that over the last couple of years we have seen our first 90 degree temp in May and this year not even coming close.  It'll be close to see if we hit 90F this week.

It's not hitting 60s° this afternoon within 5 miles of the lake or so. This stratus deck is in pretty thick. Maybe it did earlier this morning.

Light fog is near the shore up in Wisconsin at least late this morning.

Far as 90°, not surprised we didn't hit that yet. Definitely a lack of 80s so far.

Indeed, that looks insane.

I remember 2 years ago, my area had a big hailstorm, but not to this magnitude that Denver experienced. Nevertheless, my street and grass was covered in white. I believe it was around July of 2013. Luckily, my car was not damaged.

Beautiful day today in SEMI with deep blue skies, crisp cool air and very dry air also. A few fair weather high clouds can be seen in the far distance of the sky. Lows tonight are expected to dip once again into the 40s. What is the deal this year with 40s for overnight lows in June!! Last year, my area never saw 40s at all in the month of June. This year, is almost every other evening.

Looking forward to the Thunderstorms tomorrow. I am in the severe category.  :D

LOT has updated the Severe Wx Risk for tomorrow...looking more widespread than initially thought.  There will be a nice jet stream streak over head in the morning hours that may fire up some big storms.

Heavy rain wording has been added in the grid for tomorrow.

Awesome day today. Couldn't get much better. High of 63° with full sun all day.

Took this pic of the high clouds moving in about 7:30.

Regarding summer nights in the 40s. I know around here the only month 40s are pretty rare at night is in July. This time of June it is pretty common still and once we get to late August it's pretty common also - as the nights get much longer.

Being in Michigan and surrounded by water, you probably don't see 40s for lows until September though.

The Great Lakes are running pretty cool, so that's helping keep the region cooler than it should be.

I think there is a good chance to see our first real "Ring of Fire" pattern develop sometime around next weekend and into the following week as a heat dome builds in the southern plains as we cycle into the LRC's real warm phase.  GFS/EURO both showing signs as the ridge from the SW builds in and spreads eastward.

About 0.15" so far here today. Had the main rain event early and then 3 separate rounds of rain afterwards.

Thick overcast is keeping the lid on temps ~73° currently.

Wish this setup would have been in place yesterday... Missing out on most everything in Racine. Just overcast atm.

Temperature took a big dip from 82° to 63° at UGN.

Kind of doubt there will be widespread 100s this summer in the Plains.

From what I heard, hail between a nickel and a quarter came down here. Quite a few green leaves laying around.
