Look down the hill towards the house. The trees between me and the house weren’t even there when I moved in 10 years ago, now they are 15-20’ tall.

Another 79 at SEA!   Getting very strange from a statistical perspective.    6 highs of 79 in 2 weeks and not one 80.

You don't suppose your getting 2X to 3X the total precip each year compared to what I've recorded here might account for some of the difference in the health of our trees, do you?

I do. And I was never claiming to speak to the health of trees in the region. It’s horrible down in the valley and once you get down into lane and Linn county any place below 1000’ looks more like the rogue valley.

I don’t know of any species of conifer that grows several feet in two months. But here I am taking the bait again.

Anyway, the heat and drought stress definitely doesn’t end once you get above 1,000’ ft.

Our trees seem fine. I asked them and they didn't answer. Then I had some "special" sauteed mushrooms and they perked right up. I received all types of replies after that. For the most part, they all really appreciate Jesse's concern for their health and well-being, and of course they all say hi.

Spokane area looked pretty crispy and dead when we went through to and from Montana last month. But it’s easy to turn a blind eye I’m sure when you are getting the weather you love.

My guess would be the warm weather has spurred the exceptional growth rate. I have no other explanation. But I can report the trees are doing very well here and that is a bit of good news.

It's generally crispy and dry during late summer and early fall. I don't think I've ever seen it lush and green in September. I've never turned a blind eye. Of course it has been drier than usual this year. We could definitely use some rain. I wish I could make it happen. Unfortunately, I don't make those decisions.

That was just a miserable GFS run. It didn't even feature an east wind-driven firestorm. Just the slow, mediocre tepid warmth this region has become accustomed to, with no real end in sight. I'm sure it will change but....crap. Demoralizing.

Yeah, not real stellar. The EURO will be different, but what will it feature.... No idea. Stay tuned!

At least the models aren't terrible tonight.  A couple of fairly cool troughs over the next 10 days which are also well reflected in the GFS ensemble mean.

I was in Liberty today and saw the smoke plume from the fire near Yakima.  There were pyrocumulus clouds at times and the areas downwind  had a pretty sinister looking black sky.

850s actually drop to 1.3 at one point over SEA on this run.  Could be good for some lows in the 30s even in some of the less than perfect spots.

One thing I will say about the trees is Hobart takes the cake for anything I've seen in the way of tree damage from the June heatwave.  Way worse than anywhere else around here.  Some dead hemlocks and many singed Douglas Fir, Sitka Spruce, and cedar needles.
