Feb 1st Southern Lakes/Ohio Valley Winter Storm

Sounds like this storm was a little disappointing in a lot of places.

NOT over here in mby! Huge flakes, +SN at times, and totals look on track. Winter wonderland out there right now. Gotta be pushing 20" OTG with the fresh 4+ from today's event. :D

Ive got over 3 already, close to 4 id say and now a coating on top of it. Loving the fillin of Snow and Heavy at that all over my west and NW, i think ill change back over soon and hopefully we can pull it thru midnight, i think id get easily another 4 if that happens. Currently sleet and snow mixed, Moderate and im showing 30 degrees, contrary to the above map. My apologies, i realize you were saying you have 3..my bad

I still have some light to Moderate snow going on right now, going to measure soon but I'd say I might have gotten close to the 4" mark maybe even 5"

Edit* I have measured numerous sites, the most reliable one would be the once that I always use, that areas has 5.0-5.5" with snow still falling! Location is St. Charles.

A day before the storm I put our absolute minimum snowfall at 2".  I ended up with 1.7"  :(  The late Friday models weren't far off with the precip total (model avg was ~0.20", I got 0.18"), but that was down quite a bit from earlier and on top of it the snow to liquid ratio ended up being awful.

season snowfall: 34.8"

'22-23: 30.2"      '21-22: 27.1"      '20-21: 52.5"      '19-20: 36.2"      '18-19: 50.2"      '17-18: 39.5"

Average snowfall: ~30"

Nika bears watching! Could be a monster!

Currently at 4.4". I could end up with 5-7inches. Still snowing nicely.

About 4.5" so far IMBY. Stopped for a bit, now gorgeous, big, fat flakes. Still filling in SW of here, about to get a moderately heavy band.

SN 27º 6 mph NNE winds

Wow, you did well out that way. Near 3" here.

The heavy snow bands have been narrow and short lived. My son's hockey coach had 7.5" at 0630 in St. Charles, my parents in Elgin had 3 inches 2 hours ago.

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

2.9" for the final tally. Hopefully the next one isn't a disappointment. Roads are in fair shape, parking lots are the worst.

I think 4 inches when the forecast was 6-10 , has to be considered a bust. It seems  these days we cannot accurately predict snow amounts even HOURS before the storm   Is snow forecasting still so unreliable?

It ended up being bumped down to 5-8 inches today and most places achieved that. Ok yeah I see what you are saying but not that bad. Maybe for some people but several areas did get 6+

iF you remeber the last two clippers underperformed  too. 1-3 inch forecast turned out to be half an inch,  and the 3-5 forecast was two inches

Yeah I know. It sucks but it's been a great winter still with 2 more storms to track in next 7 days. Hopefully, end results will be good by this time next weekend with nice deep fresh snow pack.
