February 1986 and 2011 also saw lowland snow. Then there is March 1951... Definitely some front loading in some of those winters too. Also some extreme backloading, and nice January events in 1951 and 1969.

52 here. Won’t be as big of a minus as yesterday but still below normal. Were actually on a pretty decent steak of below normal days right now as Jim has mentioned. The low temps haven’t been as impressive as 2019 but the high temps have been more impressive than that year…atleast at my location.

There is a huge rainfall discrepancy between the 12z Euro and GFS ensembles. The average for the GFS is lower than the single lowest member of the Euro. The single highest GFS member has half of the rainfall of the Euro average. This is over the full run.

Can’t recall a time seeing them so wildly different. A couple hundred miles difference in low placement makes all the difference. We know how this game works when rooting for snow. Too far north and it’s too warm. Too far south or west and it’s too dry.

Weird. I am using weather.us as I don’t have a pay subscription to any sites. They must be using the control instead of the mean for the GEFS. Or, I’m just an idiot. Both are possible. In any event, that makes a lot more sense. No way the GFS control is correct though.

I measured snowfall that February. It was about 2 feet that fell on the 11th/12th, but we already had 1.5 to 2 feet from the previous week. With compaction, I measured between 36” to 42” on the ground at the end of the 12th. Here are my totals:

10" on the 3rd/4th

7" on 8th/9th

6" on 10th

19" to 24" on 11th/12th (Difficult to measure)

1.5" on 19th/20th

2" on 22nd

Our neighborhood experienced the most impactful windstorm (January 6) and snowstorm (February) in most longtime residents memories in 2019.

That is the main entrance to our neighborhood, completely blocked. I feel like that windstorm didn’t stick with most Puget Sound weather fans but it must have had the perfect wind direction to funnel along Rattlesnake Mountain and just punish the trees in that area. Without power, and with several neighbors with holes in their roofs, it snowed the next night. A foreboding preview of the snowy February to come.

That was an incredible stretch of February snowfall, wow.

So 24" in 24 hours, not 36". Sounds more realistic yet still very impressive.

I was hoping you had actually measured!    Thanks for providing more details.

It was very difficult to determine how much fell that night... but it looks like I was about right in estimating we had 40 inches on the ground on 2/12.     Pretty crazy!

Yes, serious cold air plowed south in Nov 2010, Nov 1985, and Dec 1968. Dec 1989 was more Midwest and East coast based. I think Michigan and Ohio State played in a blizzard in 1950.
