That was pretty exciting. Leading edge of this band was a pleasant surprise. Skies got really dark and ominous to the west. Some great downpours and lots of lighting and thunder a half hour later. Already got much more precip than modeled for this area on the GFS all in a matter of minutes thanks to this convective stuff.

Yeah absolutely, I glanced at the models this morning and spent the afternoon outside. Did not expect anything too interesting. Didn't check the radar until I noticed how the sky was looking pretty convective. I love when these surprises happen. Would be nice if our climate gave us t storms more often.

Yeah it was fairly close. It was mostly concentrated between Forest Grove and Hillsboro to the south and North Plains to Helvetia to the north. Looks like its going into Ridgefield or close to it, wonder if Justin gets anything from it.

56F and dry. Cloudy but calm, 5mph wind. Standard October weather. A +4 avg for the date. Looks like we are only about -2F for the month after today. Not really all that notable. We're still worse than half of average for precip to this point too.

I thought NW OR was looking just about the same as this area for departures a few days ago.  You must just be in a bad spot or having very bad luck.

Agreed. Years back when I still lived in San Jose I was traveling for work in Philly. The 55 year old hotel bar tender had never heard of San Jose. Didn't even know what state it was in. Like what? It's the 10th biggest city in America.

Where in San Jose? I lived there 37 years....both Willow Glen and Almaden Valley. Moved there from Brooklyn when I was 10.

I was at Mount Angel today (blah weather with smoke), Salmon fishing the Columbia near the mouth of the Sandy River yersterday (gorgeous sunny day but fish no bite) and currently Tigard Or. where it’s spitting.

I get the feeling we will be getting a big windstorm out of this pattern coming up. It’s looking active to finish the month at the very least. Would really be something to get a historic snowstorm, heatwave and windstorm all in the same year.

Would be pretty cool to have 2 major snowstorms in 2021. Wouldn’t surprise me there’s been some pretty interesting historic weather events so far this year might be some more coming.

Interesting consensus in some sort of strong low decently close offshore-- check out the ICON's 948 mb solution which would be just a bit too offshore for an inland windstorm.
