To wrap up the air travel side of the storm, it ended up as a non-event for me.  The flight from Seatac to Bellingham happened awful quick with a nice tailwind, but not too terribly bumpy.  The landing was the worst, with the pilot really struggling to keep it in the proximity of the centerline.  The pilot did tell us that the flights a few hours earlier were quite exciting, so it looks like I was just a little too late in my flight times.

EC ensemble. Looks like we will be warming up as we get into November. No late October cold.

Hopefully the cold is being saved until it's useful.

I've at least partially changed my mind about November.  Given recent events and some of the model projections I'm fairly confident there will be some kind of a notable cold snap next month.  Not sure if it will be a cold month overall, but I think a week or so of cold weather will happen.

Buoy 5 today recorded pressure of 942.5mb today. Lowest ever on record but ended up as a non-event for most people. Not a complete non-event as 150k still lost power but overall  we dodged a huge bullet.

There's a fair chance the pressure got lower somewhere than what that buoy recorded.

Sacramento should've broken its 24 hour rain totals. Downtown received 5.39" and and SAC 5.37". Some other insane totals on there, Doty Ravine with over 10.5" in 24 hours.

Yet another good sign for our winter.  That means this is up there with the 5 most extreme October AR events in CA during a Nina in the last 100 years.  The winters up here were solid on all of the others.

Also this was one of the biggest Oct storms on record for Cali. The other one on the list was Oct 1889 which also broke a 2 year extreme drought that featured massive Sierra Nevada forest fires. Sound Familiar?

That winter went on to be called The White Death and was also the East Coast Warmest winter every recorded. Sorry Phil!

October 1880 is the most similar to this though. That was the all-time record up until yesterday for most locations in NorCal. Interestingly enough, the longest dry streak on record in Sacramento was also set in 1880 before this year.

Huge winter followed for the Midwest and Plains.

I keep seeing Oct 1889 mentioned in the records on Twitter so I went with that one since it featured the winter I want for this year. Lol

We’ve had 6 consecutive warmer than average winters. Safe bet to assume this will be #7.

I’ll cope somehow. 🤷

As for warming up as we move into November. We’ve been above average down here for the past week, the cooler lows will probably produce daily means just a little above average.

Wind really picked up here around 4am, power blinked off for a few seconds but otherwise stayed on. To my highly trained ears I would say we were gusting to 40mph or so.

Still breezy now.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

My FB memory from 2016! It didn’t turn out as well as I was hoping for but the little slushy events almost every weekend in my area in December and even parts of January were fun.
