From Weed, CA to The Dalles, OR is the proposed start of it. Makes sense to do it soon before too many people move to these cities in Central Oregon.

The only trouble is those kinds of roads cause population growth where people don't really want it.  I'm kind of on the left when it comes to development.

All of ours too except for I-90.  Since they redid that thing it is REALLY nice.  Must have spent an insane amount of money on that.  Even Stevens Pass is still a death trap as you say.

The improvements over Snoqualmie Pass are spectacular... it feels so much safer now.     It was an insane engineering project and it took years to complete but so worth it.

I read that the other day and honestly that is really something I'm looking forward to. I get so tired of the constant gray and rainy days in the PNW. It can be really draining by the time you get deeper into winter. Thank God Jesse isn't here or I'd surely get a tongue-lashing for that statement.

Like you said... From what I've read of the climate out there, it sounds right up my alley. Less rain/more sun, more snow/cold, warm/hot in the summer, and more legit thunderstorms. I mean... What's not to love with the sound of that?

Much more humidity/heat in the summer is the one negative in my book

That has to be one of the best engineered pieces of road I've seen.  They did a fantastic job.

I wouldn't trade the summers here for anything.  Absolute perfection on that front.  I happen to love weeks on end of dry weather.  I think our Octobers are often pretty decent as well.

I very rarely get tired of the overcast…idk maybe it’s because I’ve never lived anywhere else. Couple of winters ago we had almost 0 sunshine from mid December all the way to mid February and that was honestly really depressing. Was glad when we got a nice sunny stretch in mid February 2020.

Sunshine gets old, too.

I will say Oregon roads are maintained much better than in many places in the country. It’s hard to explain how bad roads in Oklahoma are. Even some of the urban freeways.

Less extreme climate... at least on this side of the mountains.   Those deep freeze and intense heat cycles are tough on roads.

Pretty impressive numbers.  Amazing how many people get fed up with this climate and leave on this forum.

Myself included!

I used to work out in Sioux Falls for 14/14's. It's not a bad city but if I had to move to SD I'd prefer the Black Hills region.

100%.

In places where it's more normal to get significant snowfall, or have snow on the ground for months on end, I would have to imagine it gets to a point of "just being another snowstorm". Where as here even a 2-4 inch storm creates a certain buzz and atmosphere (not only on the forum) that is pretty contagious and fun to experience.

If we do end up going with this move, which I'd put at about 90% right now, I will definitely miss the hubub of a good 'ol PNW snowstorm.

Speaking from experience a good snowstorm never gets old!

Spokane roads are horrible. You're better off driving a Conestoga wagon around town.

Yes... our bodies are adapted to being in the sun.   And I hope 3 days of very hot weather did not make him never want to see the sun again... that seems like an extreme over-compensation.   😀

Oh certainly not, he still likes the sun as much as anyone I know! It's just that his cloud tolerance is a bit higher after our recent sunnier years. He moved here in part due to the more moderate temperatures and frequent sunshine Seattle is known for during the summer.

We'll see if you always feel that way.  Obviously one thing I hate about clouds is they keep the temps warmer during the winter.

I don't know, I've seen pluviophiles twice my age living in the city, so we'll see. And clouds in the winter are just inevitable. I like cloudy, mild nights.

Though cloudy cold nights are even better :)

They need to get those engineers to work on the stretch of I5 near the Tacoma Dome.  That stretch has been under construction for 47 years.  Just when they get done they dig it all up and make a new mess.

On rainy days it's absolute grid lock going through there.

Yeah... I would not want to live in a brown, sunny place either.   But there are green places that are not as cloudy and damp for so long.

My son was so bummed after the game last night (reoccurring theme lately) but I told him that when we move we will have a new home team to root for so we'll have twice the chance of a good season.

If the Hawks suck, we got the Vikings. If the Vikings suck, we got the Hawks. If they both suck... well, I guess we'll be SOL.

Sioux Falls is a nice city. Been there quite a few times. Usually while traveling to the Black Hills, WY and MT or going back to IL. The falls in downtown are really cool. Around and outside the city there isn't much except farmland.
