Good stuff. Nice way to start the season.

It was an active week, I totaled almost my first foot by Dec 1st. If February was not such a dud, it would have been a snowier than normal winter considering the mid-January snow.

RIDGE BRIDGE ALERT!

  • First known sighting of the fabled 'ridge bridge' of the 2021 winter season has occurred in the 12z EPS today
  • Can sometimes be followed by long breakouts of bitter cold in the PNW states
  • Can also lead to absolutely nothing of note in the aforementioned areas
  • Future Action Needed: Be on the lookout for the bridging of future ridges

All kidding aside....that is a nice look.

Been raining nonstop since Wednesday night here.

It hasn't stopped yet?  Already nearly clear here this evening.  Looks like 30s by 9pm or earlier tonight.

Past 72 hours have given us 0.28" here in Corvallis.

Screwed by plain old latitude. It happens. A bit of rain going on in the north Umpqua basin it looks like, but sunny here.

Those baroclinic bands are usually tightly focused.  You are pretty unlucky we've had a big one south and north of you already.

Jim will only have about 10 inches due to east wind and be VERY disappointed.

That only happens sometimes.

Dr. Roundy’s MJO-ER filtered tropical forcing analogs start to look interesting in early December. Arctic blast in time for holiday season?

A rare sight lately... blue sky.

Cottonwoods turning yellow now and our Japanese maples were stripped bare by the wind.

Well above average color on the cottonwoods this year and this weekend's weather will add to that.  Not at Central WA levels, but some of them are turning pretty nicely.

BTW...when we were talking about native trees the other day we forgot to mention bitter cherry.  They are one the prettiest turning trees we have, and some places haver quite a few.  They usually turn red, orange, and yellow.

Bright sun and a max of 51°F this afternoon. Had that feel of a crisp autumn day that will be followed by a frosty night. Now 45°F and falling rapidly.

I love evenings like this.  Almost clear and 45 here after a high of 50.

Clouds are mostly gone here in the San Juan’s. Gonna be an epic sunset will get up early in the morning and see if the Aurora is visible to the north of here…thankfully I do have a decent view to the north about 50 yards from my campsite. If not I’m sure tomorrow night they’ll be out.

One can never be sure. Sometimes a forecast looks promising, and the aurora is a no-show. Sometimes it shows up by surprise.

I did some quick calculations based on observed velocity and the current distance from the Sun to the Earth, and came up with a CME impact of 3:00 AM local time tomorrow morning. So I’m setting my alarm for 4:00 just in case.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Oregon Crab Apple is another good one. Same plant family, similar colors.

Wow, beautiful . You definitely timed the weather right.

The last 3 Halloween’s in a row have been spectacular in terms of weather. Have made it a tradition to come up here. I try to come once for Halloween and once in late February/early March to see some snow up on the mountain. Always have a great time
