PNW October 2021, Pumpkin Spice Edition

Camping in the rain kind of sucks. We camped at Mt. Adams a few years ago when my daughter had just turned one. Rained the entire weekend, lightning hit a tree nearby so that was kind of cool, and we saw a bear. More recently we camped a couple weeks ago in 38 degree rain in the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming. Ugh...

Lol I’ll be camping out in the snow when deweys December 2008 redux comes soon. If you’ve got the right gear it’s pretty fun. I like it, you miss the crowds and I love the sound of rain pounding down on the tent.

We’ve got a root cellar on my family’s property that stays dry and somewhat warm since it’s into the side of a hill…got a wood stove inside too so there’s atleast somewhere to shelter if it gets too sh*tty.

Strongest gust of the morning just now.

I think the gradient is shifting from E to SE now which favors your area over NB.

Hoping this works. Anyway my spouse wanted coffee so went to pick something up and it was fun watching that East wind blow the flags. That's WSU, Gonzaga, Idaho, US, and EWU flapping in the wind. Looks like the wind ripped up the EWU flag and there is a large tear in it. Was going to go to Lewiston today but there is a caution by NWS Spokane against going east over Alpowa with these winds.

I've camped in the snow three times I believe and never with the right equipment.

Doesn't sound like the worst way to camp. One of my former neighbors would choose the one day the whole year severe t'storms are developing and didn't look at the forecast. If it hails where you're at better hope it's not big!

It really helps to have an indoor heat source. I’ve camped in the back of my pickup truck in cold, rainy conditions. Put a tent over the tailgate for more shelter, set up my little catalytic heater, and it’s quite doable. Not as good as a proper RV with a built-in heater, but far better than an unheated tent sitting on wet ground with rainwater coming in on the floor.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Pretty strong gusts here currently. Shakes the house every now and again.

Radarscope is showing a possible tornado just inland from the coast.

That squall line looks 100% serious.  Could be all kinds of severe weather in those.

Looks like heights bottomed out around 502 or 503 and the pressure at SEA bottomed at 29.04.  The storm itself is around 27.80

What a beautiful satellite loop. That would've been catastrophic with a historic track.

If the axis of the trough had dug 200 miles further east we would have been ravaged.  There is just no way I could wish for that.

Thankfully none of those will reach us. Kind of a none event. Glad I pulled the forks out last night for this wind weenie event.

Looks like another line of squalls has developed well inland.  Could get pretty real for anyone that gets hit by those.

That almost has a wall cloud look to it.  The radar shows that line of squalls is indeed moving inland now.

Be careful!

I was only commenting on the speculation the low could still track in such a way to really crush us.  People might have misconstrued that.

Eh, it’s not that simple. This system has classic open water characteristics. It’s a parent low.

The biggest danger with this system would have been a strong frontal wave associated with the California jet ejecting NE. As it is, the ridiculous strength of the closed low probably helped avoid that.

Impressive looking!   Conditions currently deteriorating as line moves through.  Just breezy at the moment but water getting more choppy now.   Some bigger waves mixed in with normal waves but nothing incredible yet. Can’t wait for the big waves to arrive!

It's been dead calm here south of Bonney Lake this morning.  Had a few brief rain showers though.  My brother in Enumclaw said it was blowing pretty hard this morning but then again he has been known embellish his weather condition stories some.

I grew up in Prairie Ridge. That was a weird spot on the plateau for these events. Buckley would get ravaged, Bonney Lake proper would be quiet, the Ridge would have trash and trees down all over.
