I can't remember ever seeing a 941mb low this close to us before. I think it would be the strongest ever in this region. Shame there isn't more jet stream support. Without that the low kind of slowly meanders in early next week as it weakens. Would have potential to be a truly insane storm otherwise but as it is I really am not expecting anything too out of the ordinary.

I’m surprised Jim hasn’t posted about the weeklies yet. Some of the members go full Nov 1985.

Weekly control run is also very cold from the second week of November through the end of the run.

True November cold here is so rare, but I can’t think of many examples where a good winter followed a major November cold snap. 1955-56 was a great winter though.

Didn't realize how dry the first 21 days of October were up until midnight. KLMT is still under a full inch for the month.

I experienced 1984-85 and 1985-86. It was like living in South Park. I even had a friend named Kenny with a parka. His parka was gray not orange, and he was chubby like Cartman with a similar personality.😆😂

Nov 2010 set a couple record lows here, got to -4 here on 11/24. I believe that was the only instance in the last 10 Novembers we've been below zero and that winter never ended.

Had a low of 51 this morning and up to 55 now. Going out to Anderson island for the weekend raining lightly here waiting to get on the ferry.

Enjoy!  We drove out to Hama Hama yesterday and then spent the night at Alderbrook. Fall colors were about as good as they get in the PNW.

Makes you wonder if the SSW might have mixed things up where the cold/snow window is now bumped up to mid November through mid December. Historically a very good period for Arctic cold.

We can’t seem to buy crap in January no matter if it’s a massive/moderate/weak Nina, Niño, neutral…January rarely delivers anymore. I got lucky in January 2020 with that nice but brief event. Otherwise notable events for my area since I can remember would be January 1996, 2007, 2012. There was a great January when I was really young in the late 70’s or early 80’s but that’s it.

Noticed that Walla Walla spiked to nearly 80 degrees last night around midnight. Pretty wild.

Forgot that Spokane's snow in 2017 wasn't that big, but it looks like the overall Mean was a little cooler than I had. Snowdrift had about a couple weeks of lows below zero! Mine was just a lot shorter cold, and hit a colder minimum.

A brutally cold January seems impossible these days. We haven't set a record low in January since 1979.

All the events that winter were high impact. November was the snowiest on record beating the venerable 1985. We had a couple blizzard warnings in November and February. In late December we had a deepening low pressure center drop heavy snow on the area. Whitman county saw a blizzard with that storm.

We came close in 2004. The record was -22°F and we hit -21°F. Go figure.

A handful of daily records are not even -5 though the monthly January record is -25.

Apparently on 1/15 hitting -3 is cold but not in early or late month.
1917 and 2020 were the two only times it got that cold on the 15th.

Mid month is pretty tough to beat here with two -30s from 1888.

I'll take it. It's like Taco Bell. Everybody complains about it, but nobody can resist a chalupa or two.

At least it's not the worst. Last time I ate Long John Silvers my body let me know what I did wrong not even an hour later. Buying frozen boxed fish at the grocery store is higher quality than that.
