NEJeremy
My old home town of Sioux Falls South Dakota got absolutely drilled last night. Some parts of town had over 7" of rain in a couple of hours. Check out this newspage for some crazy pics and videos. I know I've seen some other videos out there too that were just as crazy from last night. http://www.keloland.com/newsdetail.cfm/heavy-rains-flood-sioux-falls/?id=184294

Geos
Those picture and videos from Sioux Falls are extraordinary! Never seen the falls like that before. Usually it's just a series of tranquil waterfalls. Take care James, I know you've been getting dumped on today. 1-2 outlook for further east. NEJeremy
Geos- It sounds like you're somewhat familiar with Sioux Falls. Did you use to live in Sioux Falls or the area? I found another story from the local news station that shows more videos and pics that I think are a little better in showing the extent of the flooding. It's crazy to think the Empire Mall was flooding and that HyVee on 49th and Louise I've been to a lot of times and it had several inches of water in the entire store it looks like! http://www.keloland.com/newsdetail.cfm/many-sioux-falls-streets-flooded-following-heavy-rain/?id=184290
Hawkeye
Parts of Iowa are getting it bad today. Up to 9 inches of rain has fallen north of Ames. Flash flood warnings have been issued eastward into the Waterloo area. Geos
So far only a couple hundredths of rain. Steady rain taking forever to get in tonight. Probably be 11pm before it starts again. This month definitely ending below normal too. 7th month below normal this year. Just read our sunspot count is lower than the Dalton Minimum now. http://iceagenow.info/2015/08/sunspot-count-now-lower-than-during-the-dalton-minimum/ 1 Quote Mercer Island, 350 ft 2021-2022: 11.6", 02/21 2020-2021: 15.6" 2019-2020: ~10" 2018-2019 winter snowfall total: 29.5" 2017-2018: 9.0", 2016-2017: 14.0"

Wish this system was part of the new LRC!In September, we begin the slow transition into the new LRC pattern. It'll be interesting to see how this all evolves into an interesting season. The mature El Nino vs "The Blob" will likely will begin to interact more notably as the season variations begin up north next month. Hope we will be able to track frequent phased systems this season. Tom
As we begin a long period of very warm late Summer weather, Arctic temps are tanking and dipping below normal. In fact, the temps are colder at this same time of the year than the previous 2 year's. http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/plots/meanTarchive/meanT_2015.png During 2014 & 2013, temps began to average above normal from this point forward. What does this mean going forward??? Let's see what happens over the coming weeks. If there is more colder air bottled up north, I think as we head into Sept-Oct, Autumn cold fronts may pack more of a punch. More Snow and Ice in the Arctic regions, may translate to a faster snow cover.

Tom
We definitely have smoke in the air today. The skies remind me of how smoky it was during the 4th of July up in Wisco. ORD will average out 1.3F below normal for meteorological Summer. Can't believe today is the last day of August already...this Summer flew by way to fast.
