Is this trying to be a '14-15 but with more mountain snow? The models are spitting out more potential wind events. I know, more than a week away.

Every 3-4 weeks was a 55-60mph event here and Feb 2015 delivered a nice 65-68 early one morning.

The east wind torture is finally over.  The rain has plunged the temp to 47 now after the disappointing warm night last night.

Yes, I realize El Nino that time. Nothing beats the lack of snow more than that winter. 2.9" whole inches. 🤪

I just hate it when it costs us a cold night.  that won't be the case so much for the rest of the week.  In reality the east wind only costs me about 5 freezes a year, but it sucks when it happens.

The cottonwoods are stealing the show for native trees this year.  Some of them are bright yellow and gold now.  For some reason the usual brown shriveling didn't happen this year.

Seems like the east wind prevents freezing temps at night way more than 5 times per year here.   Its pretty much a given when there is offshore flow unless its during a snowstorm.

Depending on where the trough sets up, there is big potential for a long duration cold pattern if that verifies. Looks like persistent GOA and high latitude blocking.

We’re due for a sub-30°F high. Last one at SeaTac was in February 2014, Seattle proper November 2010.

Yeah, the only stretch which compares is 1937-45. Even then it was sandwiched between generational winter spells.

Though in the snow department we’ve been very lucky and both February 2019 and 2021 had subfreezing highs and snow on the ground. Seatac was ~2°F too warm throughout much of February 2019 compared to the north end of the city.

I wouldn’t mind a winter event with most of the precipitation gunning for Oregon and arctic air intruding everywhere (25°F highs and such.) Three top-tier snowstorms in three years has been a wonderous stretch I never could have imagined before 2019, and the Wilamette Valley is due.

Yeah it was pretty consistent on showing a snowy pattern for West of the Cascades.  And it was pretty wrong too.

Pretty obvious this year is a much different animal than last year though.

1937-38 through 1945-46 was horrendous.  The only thing worth a D**n in there was January 1943.

As for your second point....as long as we get a good snow going into the cold.

Interesting analogs today.  None from this century on most runs and 1970 continues to show up.  I wonder if that's an analog?
