Popular Post North_County
Brief update. This is a copy paste from social media because my battery is almost dead. But yeah, the situation in Abbotsford affects me because my house sits right around the edge of former Sumas Lake during flood season (it expanded and contracted a lot throughout the seasons). We have heard the rumors of the potential failure of the Yarrow Pumps and subsequent inundation of the Sumas Prairie. We have also heard that there are positive signs on the Fraser River that failure might not be imminent. We are choosing to remain positive that our house will not be affected. Nevertheless, we made the decision to be evacuated around 10 o'clock tonight primarily because, with all north-south streets in Sumas still under water to the west, the only escape route out of our neighborhood was to head east, toward the prairie. So we had to do it now, or we wouldn't have a chance later. It was quite surreal to look across the field at the Canadian side, and see a stream of headlights heading west, fleeing the prairie. We are now safe with family on high ground far away from the flooding. 7

It can't keep up with the inflow and is slowly losing the battle. That will be very bad. Wouldn't the Fraser river flood southwestward into the Sumas River and maybe eastern parts of Abbotsford? I dunno this area at all or if that would run downhill from Barrowtown to Abbotsford?
