12Z ECMWF just pounds western WA and BC again later next week with additional AR events.   Nature is cruel.   More excessive rain where it's not needed and very little where it is needed.

Might need to speak to the manager if this keeps up.

Rain isn't going to do much down this way. We need mountain snow.

You called? I will see what I can do. I'm thinking I'm going to keep this north/south gradient thing going on forever and rename Oregon Upper California.

I thought California was already upper California as Alto California to Baja California. Maybe super California?

I specifically ordered snow and your incompetent employees keep giving me rain. I demand satisfaction.

Some of the strongest north winds I’ve ever seen came with that Arctic front.

Good to hear they have already gutted it, *hopefully* that will save them in the long run in terms of rehabilitating the house.  Have you been able to get in and look at your business yet?

I'm hoping to catch up with my neighbor this weekend (he is a WSDOT Engineer) to find out how things are looking on the road/bridge front.

We're working on the business today after finishing dealing with the house yesterday. The water exploded right at our shop once the rail embankment failed behind it. The damage to the parking lot is simply incredible. Completely ripped out and/or buckled in multiple places. Inside is a mess, and of course the biggest issue is the water damage to the walls. Not sure what's going to happen with the business to be honest. We rent the building, and not sure what the landlord wants to do with it. Kinda in limbo right now. It's mostly my wife's business, so she's pretty worked up about it. I still have my normal 9-to-5, which was unaffected, so we'll be fine. But just a lot of love poured into it by both of us, and that makes it hard to walk away.

That's brutal,  your business survived the border closure to only have to deal with this within.....a week(???) of the border opening back up.  Glad to hear you still have a steady income, but I'm sure that sucks for your wife.  Hopefully the landlord will pick up some FEMA dollars and rebuild.

I'm guessing that was quite the "tsunami" of water that hit the building when those cars went over.

Can any of you help with a question? It's snowing here but my temp says it is 40F outside. Can it really snow at this temperature? It's not sticking but still.

It must be because of the dew point. It can snow and be 45 degrees if the dew point is below freezing. Back in late February 2019 it was 43 degrees and snowing here since the DP was in the teens!

If the column is dry enough and/or the precip is heavy enough, it can snow at surprisingly warm temperatures. There are some anecdotes of 50°F snow in the highlands of the Rockies during spring showers. Dry late Spring air, heavy convective showers, and thin air (lower thermal conductivity) allow it, albeit transient and only lasting for a few seconds. That's an extreme example though.

Yeah, this town has really suffered. We had the flood in February 2020. Then the border closed down like three weeks later, which absolutely destroyed most businesses. And now this. The city confirmed that 100% of the businesses had water damage, and 75% of the residences. Just from what I've seen, probably 25% of all homes will be total gut jobs. Maybe much, much more. And in complete honesty, this is a pretty low-income area to begin with.

Yeah, I've seen 47F snow in Nevada near Reno before. Now, that was based on the car thermometer, but I don't think it was much colder than 45F.

I forgot all about the ECMWF weeklies yesterday and they are pretty good.  The mean is decent and the control was quite cold and snowy during part of December.  In a more generalized way of looking at it the teleconnection forecasts have the PNA and EPO both minus for a good period of time on yesterday's run.
