It really hasn't been the best place for snow since I've moved here. But I'm hopeful this winter will make up for it and if it doesn't, well, we won't be here for much longer anyway. You’ll hate the snow in like 2 years probably you’ll get enough . Yeah we have similar issues here in Tacoma with those darn Olympic mountains we’re really not the best spot either…when it comes to convergence zones too once or twice a year we get hit though with NW flow. BLI snowman
Having lived near both the Columbia River and the Fraser River, it's definitely ideal to live in a spot adjacent to the outflow that doesn't actually see a lot of wind. That seepage still keeps you a few degrees colder than the milder areas, but doesn't cut into your totals the way it does in the windiest spots. Especially in a strong outflow situation. The wind is usually a hindrance for snow accumulation with legit arctic fronts or with any major offshore lows that spawn deep cross-Cascade gradients. Of course in a shallower outflow event it will hurt not having better access to the easterlies. Witnessed it on 2/9/2019 when Camas/Washougal had 6-7" and we barely scraped out an inch before the precip ran out.

We had about a 4" event in early December 2016. Salem had 5" on 12/14/16, but we only got about half that up here. There was a warm layer along the foothills and we had to contend with hours of sleet while it was snowing in the valley. December 2015 and 2012 had some decent snow at times, but it was spread out over a few days and not one big event.
